Starting 11/19 Come and celebrate the works of everyone’s favorite folk-inspired-sensitive-dreadlocked-white-boy-pop-rock band of the 90’s by arguing with complete strangers about which song should’ve arbitrarily won over the other on the Internet! We will do 10 rounds... 1.) August and Everything After 2.) Recovering the Satellites 3.) This Desert Life 4.) Hard Candy 5.) Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings 6.) Somewhere Under Wonderland 7.) B-Sides 8.) Covers 9.) Wild Card 10.) Championship Remember to subscribe and invite friends to participate! Some Ground Rules... - Each round of voting will be open for roughly 24 hours, starting around midnight PST and going until midnight the next day. Voting on weekends will remain open for 48 hours (so, Saturday and Sunday.) - Each participant may vote only once per round, though you may vote or abstain from any round you choose. Once the final tallies for a round have been posted, you cannot cast a vote for that particular round. - As the bracket runner, I will only cast my own vote in the event of a tie-breaker. - After you have posted your vote, I will like that post. Once I have liked that post, your vote cannot be changed. (You will also get unconditional likes for anything you post here, so yay!) - Debate is expected and encouraged, but please remember to always be respectful. Any teasing should be obviously humorous and good natured! - Listen to the goddamn Counting Crows and have fun!! WINNERS August and Everything After: Round Here; runner-up: Anna Begins Recovering the Satellites: A Long December; runner-up: Angels of the Silences This Desert Life: Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby; runner-up: Hanginaround Hard Candy: Up All Night (Frankie Miller Goes to Hollywood); runner-up: Miami Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings: Cowboys; runner-up: Hanging Tree Somewhere Under Wonderland: Palisades Park; runner-up: Possibility Days B-Side: Accidentally in Love Cover: Friend of the Devil Wild Card: Anna Begins Champion: Round Here
Yes! My favorite part of these is revisiting bands discography that I neglect more than I should, and Counting Crows definitely fall into that category. Some of their songs are some of my favorite songs of all-time, but I tend to neglect their full records
Interested to see what wins. Early guess: Round Here. But until the 3EB bracket, I've always been WAY off. Either way, IN.
This band has an excellent catalog of songs that only exist in live recordings and bootlegs and whatnot.
Sure thing! Just to give everyone a clear idea of what rubric I’m using to make these choices, my number one rule is that it needs to be a song that exists in a studio recorded ‘official’ release - nothing that only exists as a live recording or an unreleased demo. Second, I try to make sure that these are songs that are available through a licensed streaming service - not something that is accessible only through YouTube. Spotify is my streaming app of choice, so I tend to work off of that. I will work on shoring up this list, but for now this is the tentative list of covers and b-sides I was planning on throwing in... B-SIDES Shallow Days Love and Addiction Einstein on the Beach (For an Eggman) She Don’t Want Nobody Near Accidentally in Love COVERS Mean Jumper Blues This Land is Your Land Big Yellow Taxi Friend of the Devil and then all of Underwater Sunshine If there’s anything that people feel passionately I’ve missed (and that conforms to the above rules), please PM me - I’d prefer to keep the thread as uncluttered as possible!
As thanks for the ad space on another thread, be sure to check out @Bad Frequencies Hawthorne Heights bracket, which is in its final stretch! Bracket - Brackets Are For Lovers (Hawthorne Heights Bracket)
It’s go time, baby! Blast that shit up to the rafters, it’s time for August and Everything After!! August and Everything After ROUND ONE 1.) Ghost Train vs. Mr. Jones 2.) Sullivan Street vs. Perfect Blue Buildings 3.) Rain King vs. Omaha
Ghost Train Perfect Blue Buildings Omaha This might be the hardest thing I'll ever do in my life lol. The only way for me to actually decide on these is to base it off how I'm feeling today. Wayyy too hard for me to actually say which of their songs I like better overall.
Mr. Jones (I've heard Mr. Jones way too many times over the past 25 years...but I'm still going to go with it in this matchup) Perfect Blue Buildings (This was a tough one! I'll go with this by the slightest margin) Rain King (It pains me to vote against Omaha so early, but Rain King is one of my favorite overall Counting Crows songs)
Current Totals ———————— Ghost Train - 1 Mr. Jones - 7 Sullivan Street - 4 Perfect Blue Buildings - 4 Rain King - 5 Omaha - 3
