The Eternal Battle For Mike Cronin’s Soul Goodnight, My Love Bang Bang My Home Youth/I Swear, I’m Okay The only tough one for me this round was Goodnight, My Love vs. A Part Of Me. Full disclosure - I did not listen to Bang Bang V2. I know that it was released exclusively to people who participated in the pledge campaign (which I did not) and I couldn’t find it on YouTube. I wasn’t going to vote for it regardless, because I’d feel weird about voting for Bang Bang twice in the same round. I’m not crazy about My Home, but it’s alright.
Bang Bang V2 is pretty cool IMO and packs more of a punch at points than the original, but overall the original is better. Also why so much hate on My Home!
I said it’s alright! I dunno...for me it’s toward the bottom of Wolves. I just like most of the album more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I really like the chorus on that one. Not a fan of the electronic drums and overall sound in the verses. It's sad that these little things ruin otherwise good songs.
I don't mind that they turned it into a dubstep track actually. But yeah, it just sounds weird with all the other tracks on that album. Btw, did they ever say why they left out those two tracks? I can sort of understand for Falling Down since it's a faster track and sounds different than the rest of Page Avenue. It sounds like a bonus track of them just having fun and going all in. I don't understand Burning Years being left out though.
I thought I remember them saying they just ran out of time, which is why I think they shouldn't have spent time on In the Shadows. I would have loved a slowed down version of both Falling Down and In the Shadows. Divide and Conquer and The Hero Will Drown both turned out fantastic. I never would have thought Hero could be turned into a piano ballad but it was beautiful and gave me chills the first time I heard it.
Does Wolves have some religious undertones to it? I could be crazy but I feel like I hear things referenced in more than one song that make me think this. Also, does anyone else think Can Anybody Hear Me would fit perfectly on the last Marianas Trench album?
I think the bridge in Eternal battle is really cool! I love the way the guitar comes in underneath it all. Idk, maybe it's because I listen to everything from pop to hardcore that I don't have problem with it. Wouldn't really call it dubstep though, that sounds way to negative ;)
Eternal Battle For Mike Cronin’s Soul Goodnight, My Love Give Up My Heart Bang Bang V2 Youth/I Swear, I’m Okay
My local rock station used to play Maggot Brain at midnight every Saturday. Assuming that was for the stoners.
Alright everyone, here’s the final scores of round 1. We have some clear winners, and some that were just not even close beyond that. Can Anybody Hear Me-6 The Eternal Battle For Mike Cronin’s Soul-12 Goodnight, My Love-5 A Part Of Me-13 Bang Bang-13 Give Up My Heart-5 My Home-15 Bang Bang V2-3 Like Ghosts-1 Youth/I Swear, I’m Okay-17 That will move us on to round two, which will be: The Eternal Battle For Mike Cronin’s Soul Vs. Miracle A Part Of Me Vs. Bang Bang My Home Vs. Wolves/How Can We Go On Youth/I Swear, I’m Okay Vs. Praying For Rain Begin!
Miracle Bang Bang (listened to this song like a year straight before Wolves came out and it still hits. Sucks to vote out Part of Me though since it's top tier on Wolves) Wolves/How Can We Go On (I lovvveee My Home, esp the bridge build up. The guitar and bass tones in that part are so great. How Can We Go On is the best song on the album though!) Youth/I Swear, I’m Okay (everything after the spoken word part of Rain rules but first half drags it down for me)
The Eternal Battle For Mike Cronin’s Soul Bang Bang Wolves/How Can We Go On Youth/I Swear, I’m Okay All good songs but pretty easy decisions
