Chroma ROUND TWO 1.) Settle Down vs. A 2.) Say Anything (Else) vs. Honestly 3.) Runaway vs. Matter of Time 4.) Q vs. Burn This City
A Honestly (This was a tough one!) Matter of Time (Another one that's basically a toss up) Burn This City
For me personally, it's simply because it went up against "A", which is by far my favorite on the album (probably their entire discography). Bigger disappointment to me was "The Minstrel's Prayer" getting knocked out so soon. Love that one.
It's a crime against the songs, the band, and the bracket to separate Q&A, but I suppose there'd be no point in having a bracket if they were combined. Nevertheless – Settle Down Say Anything (Else) Matter of Time Burn This City
Look, I’ve had shivers run down my spine while listening to the reprise of “Burn This City” like everybody else, but that’s a transcendental moment on a good but unwieldy track. Its own driving melody (even if it’s meant to be of a piece with “Q”) isn’t that strong, and it loses all momentum once it turns into that boring 5-minute electro mood piece. I respect the ambition and the themes on display, but “A” is not the best song on Chroma - or Cartel’s discography - by a long shot. But I realize most of you feel very differently. That live version of the songs was incredible, though. Thanks for sharing @KidLightning !
And Round Two is closed, and we already have our first tie! Between “Runaway” and “Matter of Time,” I cast my vote for... Runaway Which makes our winners... Settle Down - 3 A - 7 Say Anything (Else) - 8 Honestly - 2 Runaway - 5 (+1) Matter of Time - 5 Q - 1 Burn This City - 9 Onto Round Three!
Oh shit, I forgot to do one of my Patented Stupid Rhymes for this album! *ahem* I generally enjoyed Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, but it couldn’t match the first time I listened to Chroma!
