Julien was unreal and I decided to make my way to the back for a quick exit post boy genius and I already regret it with the noise level
The Boygenius set is probably one of the top 5 performances I’ve ever seen, this thread wasn’t being dramatic. I had actual tears streaming down for pretty much the whole set.
Yes! Lucy didn’t play “Pillar of Truth” yesterday and Phoebe didn’t play “You Missed My Heart” yesterday. She played “Steamroller” and “Everything is Free” yesterday.
Whaaaaaat I didn’t know she covered that! The Father John Misty version is really good if any of y’all haven’t heard it.
Also I chortled loudly the other night at Phoebe’s “Let’s open this pit up, amirite ?!” while tuning her guitar after playing Funeral
Phoebe's banter is top notch. Really amusing in-between all the miserable songs. I'm now really mad I didn't go on Tuesday, though. You Missed My Heart is one of my favorite tracks and I would have loved to hear it live.
Something I loved about the Boygenius set is how happy they all looked. It was great to see Julien on stage just beeming, and I loved their jackets too. And I swear I’m gonna block the next person that tries to rank them against each other because if there’s one thing they proved last night it’s that all three of them are equally and immeasurably talented.
Speaking of, I was in my Uber on the way home last night and the girl I pooled with was also at the show and was doing JUST THAT the entire ride.
How could that be what you want to do after leaving that show? They all accomplish such different things in their respective sets.
At one point she said she wished she’d gone to ETID instead because “it was too sad”. I think she may not have known much about them before going to the show.
Those were the best two shows I have been to all year and probably ever and they knocked my previous favorite shows ever down the list.
Tonight!!!! Been working 10 hour days this week so I wouldn’t have to work tomorrow after driving back, so this is going to be an extremely good way to end my week.
this is great: GQ: When you heard each others' music for the first time, what did that feel like? Did you recognize similarities in your music when you first heard it? Phoebe Bridgers: Like five dudes in my life texted me when Julien's record [Sprained Ankle] first came out. They were like, "Oh my god, this is so up your alley." Or like, "This girl sounds exactly like you." And I was like, fuck this. I didn't listen to it until my friend who shows me all my favorite music sent it to me and was like, "You're gonna fall in love with this record." And I listened to it, and I pulled over and I cried in my car.
This too: Bridgers: People will talk endlessly about five white dudes playing shoegaze and how different it is, and like, literally war each other about which one you're allowed to like and the differences between the two bands, and then women literally play guitar and whisper sometimes and scream sometimes and they're like, "Same!"
