I remember thinking how the initial first 3 singles felt like separate corners in terms of creativity: Obviously, Stay Down - Julien, Me & My Dog - Phoebe, Bite the Hand - Lucy But after listening to the EP over and over again, the other three tracks really help tie those three separate corners together. I get a better sense of their cohesiveness as a band better with the newer songs. I think Souvenir is the highlight for me. The ending to that song is so damn heartbreaking.
I thought I ordered the vinyl but I can’t find an email confirming that I did. What would the email say? When I try to search for matador nothing comes up.
My friends and I got a cabin up in Ketchum, ID on Friday, and I was listening to this EP on the drive up there and then saw that there's a song called "Ketchum, ID" and I thought I was in the Twilight Zone or something.
That sucks, unfortunately in my personal experience when you contact distributors about it they kind of shrug it off, and give you a line like "Unfortunately, it happens sometimes"
These songs are gorgeous. This is such a cool thing. I hope they do all of these on the tour. They have to right? The guitar tones in Souvenier, the lyrics of Ketchum, ID, and the rock and roll of Salt In the Wound. My goodness. These artists truly compliment each other so well and have managed to take three different styles and maks such a cohesive, powerful EP, despite being able to pretty clearly tell who is the main writer of each song. It’s also having the added bonus of helping me appreciate Stranger In the Alps a lot more. It never fully clicked with me before but I am into it now.
Yeah this got me to go back and re-listen to Historian. Dacus was the only of the three I couldn't get into. Definitely hearing her work in a new way now though. I'm trying to sustain the high I get from this ep, really wish it was a full album!
I feel like I’m in the minority in loving Lucy’s stuff the most of the three I like Julien and Phoebe’s solo stuff but way prefer this to anything I’ve heard by them
Phoebe is my favorite artist of the last several years easily and Stranger is one of my all time favorite albums They're all great though
I love Phoebe's album, but Julien's stuff seems more bland the further I get away from it. Really am digging Lucy though.
They are all incredibly talented young artists and it's going to be a thrill to watch them continue to grow over the coming years and that's all we really need to worry about.
How big do you think they will all get? Selling out two nights in Chicago is pretty big but how high up can they get popularity wise?
Well I meant grow more as musicians tbh. I think we could see them all get as big as each other (as opposed to now where I think it's more Julien>Phoebe>Lucy). Actually Lucy probably has the most potential to go farther. I think they all have potential for a Courtney Barnett level of success, individually. But who really knows, anything could happen.
