New podcast episode - hit the episode 100 milestone - and I've got Jaret back on. We talk about the 20th anniversary of their 'A Hangover You Don't Deserve' album, the 30th anniversary of the band, highs and lows of their career, being recognised from TikTok more than the band, and more. Enjoy!
I need some fun pop punk to listen to that isn't blink-182 or Sum 41 and this band seems like exactly what I'm looking for. I know all their main songs ("1985", "Girl all the Bad Guys Want", "Punk Rock 101", etc) but do they have any albums that are worth listening to in full? What are their best songs that I probably don't know?
Drunk Enough to Dance, A Hangover You Don’t Deserve, and The Great Burrito Extortion Case are all great albums! Butch Walker worked with them on many of the songs present on those. In their later catalogue, the albums are a little less consistent, but there are still gems to be found. Lunch. Drunk. Love. is pretty solid!
Agreed. There are great songs on every record, but the three mentioned are pretty great front to back
Update: I am loving going through this band's albums. They're scratching that pop punk itch I had. Favourite songs I've discovered so far are "Where To Begin", "Out The Window", "Turbulence", "Trucker Hat" and "Suckerpunch".
Last night Bowling For Soup played and sold out their 2nd biggest headline show of their career in Nottingham!! Their biggest headline show will be later in the year at Wembley Arena in London!!
^ was just about to say that lol It's funny how a band can connect so much in certain areas, especially still today in a smaller world. I remember at WWWY23 fest meeting a couple of euro dudes who came all that way because of bowling for soup AND zebrahead as if that's some awesome combination lol And yet they'd be happy to sell out a small venue in the states
I am from the UK and Bowling for Soup were big but in a 3.to 5,000 capacity venues size for a while then they had a bit of a slump playing in clubs and smaller cities but then they did a farewell tour at the time and it was sold out.. I was at the final ever show Hammersmith Apollo, it was professionally filmed and myself and other fans were interviewed for the dvd/blu ray release after the show but after a couple of years, the band reunited and every time they have toured over here, is always a sell out tour every time so now seeing them playing and selling out smaller arenas and gonna be playing their first big arena show at Wembley later on the year... It's mind boggling they are bigger than ever without having an hit album or single in recent years but the fans still go ape shit over the new stuff as well!!
Just checking the AXS map for the Bowling For Soup Wembley Arena show and it's selling well so far with sections of the arena already sold out, even though the gig is not till December I think they will sell out Wembley Arena weeks or a few months before hand
I maintain these guys badly need a second guitarist live. Everything sounds so hollow and flat live since Chris was forced to leave the band.
I agree, it reminds me when I saw NFG and they were just a 4 piece and it suffered without a second guitarist
Chris had some sort of medical issue with his foot and had to have some of his toes or part of his foot removed, I can’t remember exactly, so he’s stepped away from the band.
