I rate them pretty equally actually, both great.

I liked Bodies more than Shiva Baby but yeah this is the pinnacle from everyone involved

Theater Camp is in there because of Ayo?

Yeah and Molly Gordon, who is in Shiva Baby. It just feels adjacent haha

I'll have to give Theater Camp a shot but no way it tops Bottoms for me.

Oh! Didn't realize Molly was in it. Nice little enclave with those cast members!

Definitely worth it for anyone to give a watch, but I hung with the theater kids in college so it poked a nerve

I guess technically by my own criteria, we could include The Bear :crylaugh:

I did tech theater in high school but that's the closest I got to theater kids, and we mostly just watched movies in that class anyway lol.

I think seeing and relating to your own Jewish family in Shiva Baby adds to it too, haha.

"Theater Camp" just missed the mark for me. Ayo wasn't really given much to do and the kid stuff was way more interesting and funny than the drama between Molly Gordon and Ben Platt's characters. It felt like a little less-sharp "Wet Hot American Summer."

  17. Bottoms beats Shiva for me based on rewatchability, I’ll go back to Bottoms many times in my life whereas two years later I still attribute most of my greys to Shiva Baby. But both are fantastic

honestly theater camp is probably the most well made out of the bunch but the borderline ptsd that shiva baby gives me takes it lol

I was dating a Jewish gal at the time and took her to Shiva Baby, so that definitely enhanced it for me as well. Not sure she liked it lol

Side eye to anyone who watches Shiva Baby and exclaims “that was fun!” Lol

  21. Theaters around here are showing it again soon so I got a trailer for it before this and Barbie. Both times there was at least one audible person going “oh that looks so fun”. RIP them I guess. There are laughs in that movie but marketing it like it’s a comedy should be a crime lol. Thankful I never saw the trailer beforehand

  22. Been waiting for Theater Camp to hit streaming - self aware or not, a movie about theater kids being theater kids is something I don’t trust enough to be paying money for

Theater camp is one of my favorite movies of this year. Loved it so much. Bottoms is far better but I'm just glad weird little movies like these exist still.
