Gimme light, gimme love, gimme fire

Seeing Not Another Teen Movie and Hot Rod getting referenced in here just doubles my excitement for this.

Absolutely loved this. Perfect amount of humor, heart, and absurdity. Can’t wait to watch it again.

Enjoyed it, idk felt a little tamer both in comedy and violence than I expected, probably just from reading the hype (oh no I'm already doing that again for Poor Things :verysad:)

  5. Tame is honestly the last word I would use to describe this but I definitely can relate to the power of an overhype

Yeah probably not the right word but I thought it'd be more violent and the jokes would go a little further, idk maybe I'm just desensitized

Okay. The DUIs are obviously terrible. He could have killed someone. And the running over the woman - absolutely. But the assault and gun charge I believe was a case of him being racially profile because he proved he wasn’t in the area and she said it was him because the guy who did it was black iirc.

I feel like a movie has to walk a thin line to make jokes with f-slurs and men beating up women pretty funny and this did this. I mean, some guy catches a sword to the chest.

    run away with me Platinum

choosing to believe that Rachel Sennott wearing like 5 cross necklaces at once was intentional about the Shiva Baby discourse
This was fun but it definitely took me a little to get used to the American Dad style universe where apparently the custodian is the only on in the school doing their job but once I did it was fun pineapples are worse than drugs
I also liked that Isabel and Brittany were nice

the janitor refusing to clean the locker during the Complicated needle drop was a great moment

This isn't really a spoiler, and I didn't even notice until it was mention in a letterboxd review I saw, but it was so refreshing to see a movie not use social media or texting as a plot device like at all. They weren't going viral for their fight club or getting bullied online, everything happened in real life. Part of the bizarre atmosphere that really adds a timeless feeling to it.

  12. Every time a student passed him in the foreground I really, really wanted him to just magically disappear lol

  13. This but also Hazel getting her head kicked after a running start was unquestionably brutal. A lot of the comedy is played for laughs but that was downright uncomfortable

I really appreciated this as well. I thought it was cool that you couldn’t really tell what year this was taking place in, other than the “yas queen” and “slay” stuff. Even the fashion is hard to place.

The other modern comedy trope this movie completely avoids is the "and now everyone took drugs and is SO FUCKED UP" sequence.

Plus for a movie as violent as it is.... No guns!!!

I think multiple characters said ”Im getting a gun now” or something in a very dead pan tone, never even realized there were no guns

Also my wife pointed out that there wasn’t a big party scene, would go well with the above trope. Didn’t need it! [\spoiler]

This absolutely fucking ruled. So damn funny. Put Ayo in everything please. Also give Marshawn his own movie.

I think this had the maximum amount of Marshawn.

  22. Ayo has a very specific set of mannerisms that I think portray an insecure teenage girl much better than they do any other role I’ve seen her in

Perfect stoned two beer flick. Not sure the few other people in the theater expected the tone or vibe, but I was all in.
