The act of him just going into the bedroom with her is honestly inappropriate enough to be shocking. It didn’t need to go further than that.

 

I can't find the sources anymore, but I could have sworn when she was playing Tutar as a right wing reporter it was known she was 15. Maybe he didn't know that, but it still doesn't excuse his behavior at all?

You can just go watch the clips in the movie and see that she wasn’t marketed as being a minor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I thought for sure he was busted when the best excuse he could come up with for lying on the bed was that he was tucking in his shirt, because who tf does that. But I think your theory that he was doing it mainly to adjust an erection makes more sense

They clearly play the same scene of him in his pants twice from two different angles to make it seem longer, which I get...but seems super manipulative especially since it made national news. If it didn’t blow up like it did, I wouldn’t mind

 

I agree he's done things that he should be locked up for, but why should he "go away forever" for anything that we saw in this movie?

I'm not defending the guy, and agree that he wasn't "tucking in his shirt" (I'm with OTW's theory that he was adjusting his erection), but if he was under the impression that she was 24, nothing he did here was illegal.

 

I don't even mind that it blew up and made the news, because anything to disparage Rudy's name is fine with me. I'm just not understanding the people in this thread that think that scene was some kind of "gotcha" moment.

They’re definitely sharing some alcohol during that interview, which suggests to me that they were presenting as at least 21. Either way, Rudy’s behavior is still creepy and unethical.

 

i doubt very much that Rudy would have any hang ups over plying someone under 21 with alcohol

I agree with most of this. I feel like the major flaw, as I said, is that everyone generally knows who SBC/Borat is, so they need to rely on big booms in a scene (the dance at the debutants ball, Borat busting in on Rudy) instead of letting people dig their own graves by simply talking, which is always the most interesting part. I think that they simply couldn’t trick that many people into talking like dickheads on camera like they could back in 05, and that makes sense. The funnier scenes of that taking place (the tittys doctor and the woman with the cake) just make me wonder what they told them to get them to do what they did on camera.
