Wait what part of the cupcake sequence is allegedly staged? The scene inside the bakery? Because of course the scene in the alley was staged.

 

I’m glad they sanded off the edges of what made the first “Borat” not age so well (lot of rape jokes, r-words and calling a woman ugly at that plantation scene).

This really worked much better than you would expect, especially because Maria Bakalova is just as funny and fearless as SBC. And the ending was surprisingly sweet.

 

“Okay I will go....oh one last thing: will you be my new black wife?”

 

He really should have just let Giuliani continue. Could have been so much crazier

 

On one hand I agree, but I also don’t think it’s fair to put Maria in that position.

agreed but also it's not just the first Borat movie - most comedies from that era had really terrible cringey awful jokes. we just watched Knocked Up and Superbad recently and yeah some major yikes in those mid 2000s Apatow movies.

Take with a pillar of salt, but I read a comment from someone who's brother allegedly worked on the movie and said the original plan was for her to straddle Rudy and start to grind but her earpiece quit working so SBC burst into the room early out of safety concerns

 

sure I get that - but I understand why the production still erred on the side of caution

 

That’s a viable concern, tho again in a world where there wasn’t a malfunction then I wouldn’t see it as a huge deal if she was fine with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not like SBC is the only person in the world willing to go that far for a prank lol

Yeah actually after rewatching the scene I probably agree. He was there for an interview so even though they were alone in that one room, there was clearly a good deal of people right outside. He’s obviously a creep but I don’t think he would have tried to pull anything in a setting like that

 

I think Rudy would have taken that pretty far if he wasn’t interrupted

 

If you just saw the clip in the bedroom, I might agree. But parts of the interview were egregious too, so much so that I actually think his intentions were very very bad

 

I mean they were taking off their mics in the room - I don’t think he was cranking his hog but I do think he was expecting to sleep with her in that room

 

Definitely looked like he was reaching down to pull himself out and i have no problem believing he would have if he weren’t interrupted. Dudes a rich powerful old white guy who’s alone in a room with what he thinks is a young girl, I’m sure he assumed he could get away with it and probably has in the past.

 

I was shocked by how good this was, bye. Can’t believe he lived with those guys for a few days. And the way they incorporated the pandemic was genius.

Then why not let it play out and have even more damning evidence? They clearly replay the same shot of him with his hand in his pants to make it look like he was down there longer. I think he was tucking up a hardon, which is so gross. But Borat breaking in at that moment was clearly edited too and probably didn’t happen the exact moment they made it look like

 

Oh most definitely, I just don’t think it was happening at that moment

 

As much as I want to believe Rudy was about to try to have sex with her, I really don’t think that anything we were shown indicates that to be the case. What did he do during the interview that was so egregious as to lead to that conclusion? She touched his leg multiple times and he doesn’t even seem to react to it lol
