2017 was a year I read more than other year of my life. 2018 won't be back as successful see to the fact I have another child on the way and that'll cut in to my reading time/desire to read BUT I still have a strong interest to do so and plan to, so there's that. While most of my reading last year was checking out books from the library, I plan to work through ones that I've had on my bookshelves for years for the most part, with newer series books that are released thrown in. With all that being said I set a goal of 50 this year because I feel like I'm wanting to also catch up with my Comics as well this year. First 5 books I plan to read in 2018: 1) Lock & Key: The Downward Spiral by Ridley Pearson 2) The Whispering Room by Dean Koontz 3) Wolf In White Van by John Darnielle 4) The Woman In Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware 5) Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
I have read Watchmen and the first two volumes of Y: The Last Man. So you could say it’s a new frontier.
Trying to get back into reading more this year. My Goodreads goal this year is 25. Currently reading Leviathan Wakes and re-reading IT. I have The Name of the Wind and Death's End up next in my queue.
I hit 99 books last year, which was pretty cool. This year I'm shooting for 104, and I'd like to focus more on novels than I have the last couple of years (plus work through my very long backlist), so I'm aiming for an even split between novels and comics/manga/graphic novels (52 each). Novels January 1. Bearers of the Black Staff (Terry Brooks, 2010) February 2. The Galaxy Game (Karen Lord, 2015) March 3. The Magic Misfits (Neil Patrick Harris, 2017) April 4. My book review for Overlap by Sean McCabe. I listened to the audiobook last year but own the hardcover and eBook also. I'll be posting a list of books I'd like to read this year soon. Book Review: Overlap by Sean McCabe
Updated. Kinda off to a roaring start. Hope to finish up Y: The Last Man by the end of the month. May need to up my target goal at my current speed, but I also don't see myself maintaining this pace at all. Got a young adult fantasy trilogy up next on the fiction side (all audiobooks) and another Alice Steinbach travelogue on the nonfiction side.
Ironically enough I'm off to a fast start this year as well. 19 days in and I've already read 5 books, all at least 300 pages. Averaging about 150 pages a day which is amazing but probably impossible to keep up, but we'll see. Been sneaking in a lot of smaller reading sessions throughout the day which I think has been adding up and letting me get through books faster.
Jeez, while you're all racing ahead I'm still plodding through my first book. Almost there with it now, but I've struggled to make good time for reading so far this year.
Updated. Still working on Book #2 so far but should finish it within the next few days so I can move on to others finally.
1. Lizzy Goodman-Meet Me In The Bathroom 2. Nancy Jo Salas- The Bling Ring 3. Glen Berger- Song of Spider-Man 4.Dave Cullen- Columbine 5. Bob Mehr- Trouble Boys 6. Molly Bloom- Molly's Game 7. Carrie Brownstein- Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl 8. Randy Shilts- And The Band Played On 9. Michael Azerrad- Our Band Could Be Your Life 10. Emily Bronte- Wuthering Heights 11. Krysten Ritter- Bonfire 12. Charles Dickens- A Christmas Carol
Updated for January. Finished (and enjoyed) my Harry Potter read through. Pleased to have finished 8 books.
I'm not a reader, but I will be by the time I'm done with Brave by Rose McGowan. Will start it as soon as I meet her on Sunday for her book signing.
Read 9 books in January. I believe that is a personal best. Ended up being like 4,300 pages. Crazy pace. Starting The Instructions tonight. Very excited, been looking forward to it for some time now.
Here's January...Best book was A Once Crowded Sky and best comic was Vision, And hey they're both by the same fella.
Do you think if you actually read the book instead of audio you'd have more favorable thoughts towards the series you won't be finishing?
With those two in particular, no. In many cases, the only reason I’ve finished a book is because it’s easier to power through a listen. I gave myself permission years ago to not finish books I don’t like within the first 50 pages. Both of those would’ve made it that far, but I would’ve had the same response. I almost gave up on both multiple times.
