I think there’s a better version where those two guys come back as the villain instead of rylance

Agreed. I would have been more ok with Rylance remaining as the single scene father figure…and maybe Stuhlberg/Gordon Green having this serial killer type codependency that betrays the “never eat an eater” mantra that Rylance references. Gordon Green just being a tag along murderer was probably the most disturbing part of the entire movie for me.

Rylance was the worst part of the movie. Gudagnino has a bad habit of letting established actors chew too much scenery. He was worse in Don't Look Up but it is close.

Kind of explained that I’m not sure it works within the script.

that being said I’m used to your schtick on this website which is to just feign utter disbelief at every single opinion in order to make yourself feel bigger. It’s played out.

Rylance coming back almost felt like a studio note saying they want more action In the 3rd act or something

It's a weird movie. It feels a lot like YA stuff like Twilight, except of course for the cannibalism and the hard-R. That is why it probably would have been better to end in the voice overs when Chalamet's character finally shared his story about the murder of his father.

Apparently the book ending is no invasion and just a cute scene of them cuddling in bed followed by nothing more than "and then I ate him"

I don't think this works at all without Rylance coming back and like nothing being actually sketchy with DGG beyond, "why the fuck does this guy eat people by choice" leading to her wanting to leave

a major point of the movie imo is that they can't escape their pasts. sully returning sends that home

rylance performance is absolutely ridiculous but i love it

I guess to me there was no real reason for Mark Rylance to actually show back up, I’m not sure how he ties back into their past, I feel as though being unable to escape their past is already being hammered home in numerous ways that makes Rylance’s reoccurrence feel unnecessary and tbh almost out of character based on the first encounter. That entire plot point seemed forced in order to drag out a conflict that didn’t really need to occur I suppose.

They didn't do anything to him so it isn't really a way to say they can't escape their past. You'd be better off having a family member or spouse of a victim show up.

in a movie full of scenes showing people biting fingers off and drinking blood, him returning and laying down on top of her is the most unsettling image of the movie

I was going to skip this because I very little interest in the premise, but I’m glad I was convinced to change my mind. This was very good. It’s maybe the loneliest movie I’ve seen in a while. Taylor Russell was fantastic.

  15. This was good. Scene with Stuhlbarg and Green was probably my favorite, even though I didn't recognize either at first.

  16. I was prepared for the gruesome stuff, but this is the image that will stick with me.

This wasn’t shortlisted for the 10 Oscar categories announced this morning. I was really hoping for Score and Song, thought Reznor and Ross would get shortlisted at the very least. Love this score and “(You Made It Feel Like) Home” is lovely.

I am now convinced Timothee actually dances in his room to KISS when no one is watching
