Totally dug this. Love everything Luca does. Also loved the Reznor/Atticus score, thought that was a high point.

chalamet wears a possibly anachronistic Fugazi shirt too

This was great. Took me a minute to get immersed, but maaaan does that 3rd act fucking rule. So romantic & gruesome. Like mixing Badlands with Suspiria.

Yeah I had to *gasp* quick check my phone on my empty theater because I don't really know what she looks like and wasn't sure if Chalemet's sister was her.

I also completely blanked and didn't recognize Michael Stuhlbarg but of course recognized David Gordon Green

I had no idea what David Gordon Green looked like so that one went right over my head.

Chalamet dancing to KISS felt like one of those scenes designed to become a meme.

Loved this. It was also disgusting and creepy as hell but beautiful. I too would like to pretend it ended 10 minutes earlier.

I actually don’t entirely disagree with that though. Very similar themes broadly speaking when we talk about Vampire movies. At times I thought about Thirst. I thought about Badlands mostly though.

The first ending is kind of the better ending but I still really liked this, definitely has a shot to end up in my top 10 for the year. My biggest qualm may be the way Mark Rylance drifts in and out of this movie, the relationship is a little vague and his motivations maybe just missed the mark for me, even if he is doing great work. I also wish Michael Stuhlberg and David Gordon Green played a bigger role in the film, was left wanting more from them because that scene was so intriguing.

(David Gordon Green should act more, he’s got a Lynchian type dread to him.)
