the last song ending with a bit of a crescendo that ends abruptly... is this a hint that there is more to come
That new interview on the New Yorker at least implies to me that he's interested in making happier music. Especially discussing the contrast of making SABLE back in WI vs him spending most of his time at the studio in CA now.
pretty damn good. hadn't listened to speyside before (including live vids I think) so obviously that was the highlight to me. last song feels the most like s/t of anything he's done since. things behind things is just okay tho at least based on first/second impression. nothing special on that track to me.
I listened through once and thought speyside was easily the standout. Then listened through a second time and nah they are all amazing.
The first actual song on here didn’t do much for me on first listen. Speyside is still pretty good. Saving the last track for this evening for when I relisten in optimal BI listening conditions.
Was mad when I found out this was a 3 song EP, after hearing the songs, I am even madder because I want more
Speyside actually may be my least favorite of the 3 after a few listens. I really enjoy TBTBT and Speyside but I wouldn't put either in S tier Bon Iver personally Awards Season though... is already special to me. I think I saw god when the the sax comes in
Giving me 08 indie folk vibes meets Folklore but in a way only JV could deliver. I loved 22 a million and i,i but this is the perfect palate cleanser before whatever is next. No drums, no falsetto, just JV ripping! It’s so restrained and open when that sax part comes in it’s so good. Also fall is the perfect time for a Bon Iver release.
If anyone could revive the folk revolution from 08 it’s JV. my guess is something totally different is coming for the next record, but if we got an album of songs like this no one would be bummed.
That's wild because on the like official breakdown for this EP on the site it is not at all mentioned: https://t.co/6v0GfWOO8h
maybe he just wants you to take a breath before listening to the first song, similar to the empty space at the end of "AWARDS SEASON". but you can't do that at the start of a song or no one will listen to it.
