Yeah, this is one of my all-time favorite live videos for sure. When Justin lets out that scream in the middle, it's just full body chills every time. The man was FEELING IT.
They somehow were *almost* able to translate how absolutely insane the L-ISA sounded on that first I,I tour. "We" and "Jelmore" sound amazing.
Just walked around my neighborhood and listened to this about 3 times all the way through. Some thoughts: 1. I'm just really happy this exists. About time one of the best live bands in the world has an easily accessible live album. 2. We and Jelmore have always been considered 2 of the weaker songs in the discography but man do they totally transform into something amazing with the live versions. The version of We here is incredible. (Excited to see Bizhiki this summer) 3. 33 "GOD" is probably my favorite cut here because of course it fucking is. I would be happy if there was a different version on each new volume. My GOAT. 4. Can't believe I can just pull up and listen to A Satisfied Mind whenever i want. 5. Sh'DIAH has never been one of my favorites but wow. Justin's vocals go CRAZY on this version. Mike Lewis of course kills it with the sax solo as well.
This sounds fantastic. I’ve never really been into live albums before, but over the past year or so I’ve really found myself resonating with a few and enjoying them quite a bit. This will definitely be in my rotation.
mind sharing what the others were? I've got some long travel coming up and looking for stuff to dig into.
Sure! The War on Drugs - Live Drugs Again The 1975 - Still… At Their Very Best Manchester Orchestra - Cope Live at the Earl Kind of depends on if you like any of those artists, but if you do I think you’ll dig those.
I struggle with live LPs too, but this one will definitely be part of my small list of exceptions. - Bob Dylan - Hard Rain (Live) - MJ Lenderman - And the Wind (Live and Loose) - The 1975 - Still at their very best - Vampire Weekend - Frog on the Bass Drum series Also, the OG, mostly due to nostalgia - Blink 182 The Mark Tom & Travis Show
Oh and this one. I don’t know them outside of this release but it kept me sane during the first months of COVID lockdowns when going to live shows was impossible.
I’ll never forget how good that tour sounded. I’m also very confident to this day they were trialing it at the Summerfest 2019 show they did before i,I was released.
I’m so excited to hear everything else he decides to put out as part of this series. Give me the 2018 For Emma show, JV, my bootleg needs to be replaced. I fucking transcended that night.
I forgot I had ordered the vinyl of this. So lovely. Agreed, not a lot of my favorite BI tunes but the execution is excellent. WE & Hey Ma are the standouts for me. I know every one loves the acapella version of Heavenly Father (for good reason), but these versions of them playing For Emma and Creature Fear while a walking around Paris live in my head. When I got to visit last year I was humming For Emma while walking the streets.
The version of Lump Sum from this same series of live videos 100 percent changed the trajectory of my life. I will never, ever get over this.
So stoked for this.. I thought it may be Bon Iver spins on Dylan songs but this is straight up impersonation.. which I'm not mad about at all. He sounds eerily similar to Dylan in this clip
Listening to BI,BI on a cloudy humid day in May, exact same weather as when he released “Calgary” as a single fifteen years ago this month. I had just finished my freshman year of college so was probably just in an impressionable spot generally, but it’s hard to remember another time when I heard the first single from an album and instantly was so certain it was going to be a huge deal for me (and was right)
Without checking I’m almost positive that’s when the kinda fuzzy guitar kicks in just before the “stormy on the lake” line and it so you’re right
