Even if "Bon Iver" wasn't on the bill, I'm 100% certain he would be performing in some capacity. If this fest is coming back in a meaningful way I'm buying tickets regardless. Some of the best experiences of my life.
I regret not going when it was a thing. I grew up in Wisconsin and had just moved to Florida. Somehow a Mikkeller beer made and branded for the fest made its way to the fairly small beach town bottle shop I lived in though lol. I asked the manager where they got it from and he had no clue.
I went to EC from the UK and it was one of the best festival experiences I had for sure. The only downside is I didn’t go the year Justin was performing Bon Iver songs. That weekend I saw him perform in The Shouting Matches, Big Red Machine, and Bon Iver doing John Prine covers. Pretty much everything other than actual Bon Iver, which is kind of funny looking back.
I was too poor to go when it was happening so that's why I never went. I'd assume he'd be playing in some capacity.
This ended up being my second favourite album this year, behind only Sam Fender. Never thought a BI album would mean this much to me again. The last few were okay, but not really my thing. I ADORE this record and it’s genuinely helped me maintain a more positive outlook through my health issues. And I’m really grateful for that.
I feel like the rollout hurt its momentum. By that I mean that BI got the most amount of people to look at the release of the EP and by the time the rest of the LP came around many had moved on due to confusion and/or lack of attention. I, on the other hand, really enjoyed the thoughtful approach but I'm the mark as a non-casual fan.
threw on my 45 RPM single for "Calgary / I Can't Make You Love Me" and I'll tell you what, those songs sound great when you slow them down to 33 speed.
word on the street is JV will be doing a Bob Dylan tribute set.. that idea excites me greatly but the fest will fall just a week shy from the 10 year anniversary of the live debut of 22AM.. I feel like they GOTTA do something with that
