I have only listened on streaming. When I put it on this morning in the car my wife was thrown by the opening tracks into fable. I think it will be lost on casual listeners. All the tracks rule and I just think stacking the slower ones in the beginning is a bit of a high concept for your average listener. It’s a nitpick though. I love this album.
I tend to feel that way about Sable on streaming too. But, and not to be too dramatic, the Sable tracks really sparkle on vinyl imo. The guitars sound way crisper and more energetic, and overall I can make more sense of it as a prologue. I will be more prone to skip to fable on streaming, but on vinyl I think I will tend to listen to both discs more evenly.
But also this is clearly very subjective and everyone feels their own way. It's awesome that there are so many different ways of approaching this body of work.
Finally heard this and loved it. Wonder how long it’ll take for the beginning to feel like part of the album for me though
So apparently the Coen brothers were interested in having Justin play the lead role in "Inside Llewyn Davis". I don't know what to do with this information but that's fucking wild lmao.
Oh my god I love this so much. It hit me on such a visceral level it almost reminded me of hearing BI, BI for the first time that night in headphones. He is absolutely the best producer alive at the moment. Just able to pull such completely disparate elements together into something so beautiful but also experimentally new. This lit a fire under me. Also I know he did it once on “Beth/Rest” but he is FULLY in his Hornsby bag here and I fucking love it. Those chord voicings on keys. Just gimme all of that you got.
Album certainly hits on the car ride home with your newborn daughter. Everything is Peaceful Love is euphoric
Walk Home is great. I’m pretty firmly in the “I really love this” camp now. Honestly shocked considering my first listen was so very underwhelming.
Still only one song I'm not 100% with yet (I'll Be There) but everything else is peak. Love this album.
I feel a bit torn on the fable portion of the album, it falls into a similar camp with me where I admire the creativity and enjoy parts of it just like everything he's done post Bon Iver, Bon Iver, but something about it doesn't really fully click with me. But, because I absolutely adore For Emma, Blood Bank, and Bon Iver, Bon Iver the Sable songs really hit. I was obsessed with speyside when it came out and it is by far my favorite song on this album.
