I’m rarely going to start this from Sable but Awards Season is one of the best things he’s ever written imo and it makes Short Story that much better.

Awards Season into Short Sorry into EIPL is magical

I relistened to i,i this week and there are some amazing songs but the back half kinda loses me

i,i is so good! Faith alone warrants strong points for it

fABLE does not sound that different from i,i to me. seems more like a natural progression from that LP than anything. i count this as good thing since i,i is my second favorite BI release.

Well I wish you could take that right off
All that shit that rips you right up
Then you'd know that we been taught all this from day one

    From day one

Same old town and you're passing through
Signs of live and die for you
    There's a million ways you're falling through
    The cost of your mind

Some may say that you lack the stuff
And you burn it down and clack your cuffs
But you may have to toughen up
    While unlearning that lie

^ This hit me hard. Love the reference to 22, a Million here.

"no need to crow no more" was the line that really knocked me out on this, that re:stacks callback

this def feels like his brightest and most hopeful album, which is interesting as it's coming at a really dark time in the world. really enjoyed my first listen.

There’s a Rhythm is the standout for me. It hits home so well as a Midwestern boy. Ties off the whole album well, too, as a bit of a return to the man in the cabin.

    Honestly magnificent lmao.

This record rules. Everything on Fable is really special. When short story begins it is so deeply resonant. 22 went so hard on the wild synths and it was a visceral experience, i,i sat in a middle ground where some of it was so out there set to pretty straight forward vocals and melodies it was almost a little dissonant. Still love that album big time but it’s a mood record for me. This uses all the electronics components sprinkled throughout that really enhances the experience. lots of awesome lyrical call backs.

    Don't you dare go down
Tape the polaroid to your dome
Keep the sad shit off the phone
And get your fine ass on the road
Girl, it's time that I do testify
    Whoa-whoa
    No more alone

best JV verse in a minute.

The Sable Fable idea is cool, but i think it would have been better executed as a double album or like how ezra from vampire weekend called FOTB a double lp when it was really just a long album. maybe a transition song or two that adds electronic or bright elements going into fable.

Overall this is the palate cleanser and uplifting ray of sunshine Bon Iver has needed and it was executed perfectly for me. After i,i I felt like i’d be okay if BI disappears and JV goes hard on side projects and features for a decade or so and this was a pleasant surprise.
