It's so good. I have this thing with him (and his other projects) that I almost dread seeing live footage or going to see them live because it's ALWAYS better than the studio versions. When I listen to the album version of this or BI, BI, it just doesn't stand up to what he does live with this stuff. Talk about a blessing and a curse!
Volcano Choir are MOMENTOUS live. The verison of woods/still they play is one of the greatest things ive ever witnessed at a concert.
Think I'm going to play this for my girlfriend today. I'm slightly afraid that parts of it might be too much for her, but I also told her there are some things going on sonically that are reminiscent of Yeezus and that piqued her interest quite a bit. The only Bon Iver songs she has heard thus far are the first two tracks on For Emma so I figured that needs to be remedied, haha.
Good luck. I recently started dating a girl who only knew Bon Iver from Holocene/Skinny Love etc.. Now she's hooked on this album and even has her mom and sister who usually only listen to top40 stuff hooked on it as well.
Ha, that's awesome! My girlfriend is amazing, it's so rare that I show her new music and she's not able to at least appreciate it. The last thing I can think of that she blatantly disliked was Cymbals Eat Guitars. But yeah, I'm pretty sure she'll dig it. 8 Circle seems like something she'll be really into.
Double post, but I've spent the past 45 minutes or so reading about the album in various interviews and reviews and I am still so fascinated by it. I think Justin is probably my biggest living musical inspiration. I NEED to find a way to make it to Eaux Claire next year. It's only an 8 hour drive.
Finally listened to this album a few times. As someone who adores FE,FA but have never cared for BI,BI, I wasn't sure what I'd think of this. However, I actually REALLY like it. Like, a lot. Can't wait to listen to it a ton more. (Loving two out of three Bon Iver albums makes not liking that near-universally acclaimed BI,BI weirder, lol, but now that this one's out, guess I can retire commenting on that one.) I feel like I'm gonna love this even more when the first snow comes.
I just will never understand how somebody can listen to "Perth" and be like "naaaaaah". Especially if they're into other JV stuff Haha.. Not trying to be a dick at all, it's just crazy to me!
It goes by how many times you've played a track off an album. So it's more like 28 times all the way through. But that's also just at work. If I'm on mobile, at home, or listening on vinyl it doesn't add to that number. Also take into account how many times I listened to the leak and the live session.
