The version on Bootleg 12 is probably the Bob song I’ve listened to most in the past like 10 years.

    lotta good Dead versions too

I like it, but he rewrote it with a 100000x better lyric on the next album so I always feel like it gets overshadowed for me

On 2nd listen both Mother of Muses and Key West hit me hard. So good.

And somehow Murder Most Foul works even better as an album closer than on its own.

I feel like “Murder Most Foul” is somehow a product of him having listened to both Bon Iver and recent Nick Cave

Don’t remember if anyone suggested this to you earlier, but I think Highway 61 Revisited is a great starting place. It’s where I started anyway

I would definitely say either choose Bringing It All Back Home or Highway 61 Revisited if you're looking for a starting point.

In a lot of ways, Highway 61 Revisited is the canonical apotheosis of Dylan. It's his first all-electric album, contains some of his biggest radio/jukebox hits and as a result gets kind of frozen in the amber of classic rock. But I would argue it's actually something better off as your 2nd or 3rd Dylan album because he doesn't really ever make that again, instead experimenting and going in a pretty massive range of styles.

Personally I feel that Bringing It All Back Home is the right choice because it's half electric and half acoustic, which gives you a better sense of his range. If you listen to that one and like certain songs, we'll definitely be able to steer you in other directions.

Finally getting around to listening to "The Best of The Bootleg Series"

Love that it has some of my favorite cuts in one place (Dink's Song, Moonshiner, Wallflower)

but man.. it has some amazing stuff I've somehow never heard. The 1980 Every Grain of Sand demo, amazing live version of Slow Train from 1981, and most importantly, Up To Me.

HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD UP TO ME? It's fucking incredible.
