I’m currently re watching some of my fav shows(just finished The Wire. Going through this then Mad Men, and The Sopranos). This show is so good. I forgot how many great characters/performances there are. Sure it’s not as nuanced as The Sopranos, but I love it. Discuss
Boardwalk Empire is my favorite show of all time. Nearly every character is memorable to me. Every one. And the final season is incredibly underrated considering the shortened season.
Gonna have to come back to this show eventually. I watched the first 3 seasons constantly waiting for the story to get really good, but it seems like the kind of show that immerses you in the atmosphere and world, rather than the kind of show that keeps you at the edge of your seat. The perfomances and dialogue were great, looking back. I’ll probably rewatch this in full after I finish The Wire for the first time.
Just finished this and I'm surprised there's only 3 posts for it lol. One of the best HBO shows for sure
Throughout the last season, there were a lot of really dumb and outlandish theories about how the show would end. The dumbest possible theory is the one that came true. The show has its moments, but it never managed to achieve greatness.
One thing was by the end a lot of the side characters that I really liked died but I guess being in this business that's bound to happen. Also yeah I mean idk how Tommy would know what happened to his father unless Gillian wrote him possibly. I doubt Richard would have said and I don't think Julia would even know.
My main complaint is AR dying offscreen. Obviously it wasn’t connected to what was happening, but it would have been interesting to open up an ep in the last season with him getting killed. Didn’t AR get murdered in real life?
Looks like it although they implied by a different way in the series. In real life it was a gambling debt he refused to pay. Also maybe it had to do with the shortened season.
Man I really need to return to this show. I miss Buscemi’s acting. Was this his best role? He knocks it out of the park here.
Idk if it’s his best role - but most memorable role to me. That being said Buscemi isn’t what made the show for me.
Very underrated show. Doesn’t reach the nuances of The Sopranos or The Wire though some incredible acting throughout. Plus very good writing
Was this his best role? Did Fargo put him on the map? I know he did plenty before, but I dont remember him much before that one... except a few :) Did Reservoir Dogs put him on the map? Could be.
i'm 8 episodes in on my first watch. i'm really enjoying it. i love how much they nailed the feel of the 20's.
just started season 4 today. the general online discourse that i've seen regards S2 as the best season but I gotta say, I was really enamored with S3. ended up binging the last 4 episodes because i was so hooked.
so i totally just watched the series finale thinking that this was a 12 episode season. was so confused at the end thinking there were 4 episodes to go. really wish i would have checked beforehand. anyways, phenomenal show imo. bummed it's over.
