i agree generally that its darker on average but on the other hand i also agree with you. And i dont find it more experimental. Also Tomorrows Harvest is sometimes my first or second fave album from them, i also feel that one is darker on average. alot of my absolute fave music from them is mostly unreleased lol
almost forgot to mention Memory Death. what a fucked up and beautiful sound collage. and thats totally a hospital ECG beep sample.
All Reason Departs and Arena Americanada are pretty interesting, especially the latter, is there some 2000’s Harry Gregson Williams influence there?
alright my interpretation of Memory Death is that theres some idea on life support - we dont hear it die by the end of the song (as evidenced by the steady ECG) but we get what sounds like flashes of memories in the mind of the person who holds the idea, the person is close to death but the idea will remain, on life support, at least for a bit longer.
theres a TON of verified real material out there and alot of it is posted on youtube. you can find it with generic searches. some of it is even ripped from theold boc official website, thats some of my fave material. also some of it is on several old eps, that have not been listed on platforms for a while or ever. edit: spotify actually has most or all the officially released eps. theyre excellent. most of the unreleased collections go under the names of “a few old tunes”, “old tunes 2”, “random 35 tracks tape”, and “web loops”
damn the drum drop on hydrogen is a top musical moment for me already. huge smile on my face. the synths chords are so oppressive over the top of it. its on repeat.
After several listens in the last two days, my take is that this is really good. Their first three albums will always be extra special to me in a different way because they were my gateway to electronic music (along with Untrue) but this is clearly of the same caliber. I really liked Tomorrow’s Harvest when it came out and listened to it a lot in 2013-14 but when I’ve wanted to hear BoC since then I’ve rarely reached for it. I could see this one having a lot more staying power, even as creepy and fucked up as it is. Geogaddi is my favorite of theirs most days so clearly I dig their creepy side haha
great song. am i crazy for thinking the chords are a mirror of Come to Dust? especially the little flourish on the upbeat.
