The sampling on Father and Son makes me laugh but I love it. I think my favorite on here is Into the Magic Land.
Hit the gym for my first high quality listen today. Strange workout but this is higher priority. So happy they're back!
end of the album seems a return to vaporwave textures just finished and I enjoyed it. I am a little annoyed people are plugging this as polarizing and “the darkest and most experimental Boards of Canada album.” it’s certainly dark and experimental but not far off from their other stuff. it sounds like a natural progression of what we heard on Tomorrow’s Harvest mixed with their earlier stuff IMO. I look forward to listening again
yes such a head-trip of an album. I remember trying to hypnotize my ultra stoned friend in college while playing Julie and Candy on a loop and telling him he was dreaming (not very nice)
I was like 21 or so and on psychedelics and listening to that album in a park on shitty little portable speakers right near this church that had bells that rang every 15 min…that shit was terrifying lol
I will have to give this a few more listens but I thought this was just “fine”…musically not too different, a little more ominous, vocal samples feel more clear than ever, takes me out of it (“Father and Son” probably the worst offender)
my thoughts: the two best songs, hydrogen and naraka are very basically pete standing alone and come to dust lol. they go hard tho esp that beat on hydrogen. I like it but its mostly an ambient album. I prefer more grounded melodies. the religious stuff is cool. some of the themes samples are more on the nose less subtle than i prefer.
