Star, sure. But Bo could write showtunes for days. No doubt in my mind he could write something worthy of a Tony.
I'm fully expecting Bo to write an incredible Broadway show at some point in his career, he absolutely has the ability to and it seems like something he'd be interested in too. He even wrote a musical for Judd Apatow super early in his career (like fresh off Youtube I think) but it never got made
I rewatched this for the 4th or 5th time last night and this is genuinely one of the only pieces of media I can think of that gets better every time I watch it. Just incredible. Been listening to the soundtrack all day
The musical analysis podcast DISSECT is featuring Bo Burnham’s Inside in its current mini series. highly recommend. Dissecting INSIDE by Bo Burnham (Part 1)
Wow, ever since this came out I've been wanting something basically exactly like this. I really, really wanted to know how he pulled it off and what it looked like before it was all edited together, and I can't believe he actually put this out now. It's also fucking hilarious, arguably funnier than the actual special since I get the impression that he intentionally cut a lot of the material that was too overly jokey. A lot of these bits actually reminded me a lot of his older stuff when he was mostly a web-based comedian and I really appreciated that throwback feel personally. I love that he's been shitting on Youtube for like 15 years now lol. This actually feels like the perfect thing to watch just after finishing the actual special, after the emotional journey that Inside takes you on this really does an amazing job lightening the mood, intentionally humanizing and stripping away the "mystique" of the piece and showing how much fun Bo actually had making it for the most part. Just a perfect companion piece, I loved it so much. About the music and the deluxe album, most of these songs are either really short or feel like demos, which makes sense because that's probably what they are; if he had fully finished them then I assume they would have been in the special. Because of this, I'm interested in seeing what the deluxe will be. I'm guessing it'll just be exactly what we heard in this and nothing else like Unpaid Intern or the Bezos songs (and I will happily be jamming Bezos III and IV along with the others), but it would be pretty cool if he expanded some of these, some of them really had potential like the future one at the beginning and Feel Good. Joe Biden is catchy as hell though and fits right in with the Bezos songs haha About the completed songs... - Five Years is amazing and hilarious and seemed fully finished, and the only reason I can think of that he wouldn't want to include it in the main special is that a) it kind of defeats the theme of his isolation if there's a song about his longterm relationship and b) he may not have wanted to include what was basically a Drake parody. Glad we get it though - Chicken is absolutely incredible. I'm pretty sure it's one of the songs he's been playing at Largo for the last few years because I remember hearing that one of them was about a chicken but I had no idea what the premise of it was until now, only Bo would come up with the idea and then perfectly execute creating an emotionally devastating song about why the chicken crossed the road. This song would have fit right in if it was in What or Make Happy. I actually get the impression that he added this song recently and it wasn't part of the original filming, it's basically what Bo looks like right now. - The alternate version of All Eyes On Me is really fucking cool and I hope it's included in the deluxe. It's a bit of a mess but the harmonies and additional lyrics work really well. The final version is a lot better obviously but it's cool to get this new take on it I think that about covers it
After watching the Outtakes I’m even more impressed with the actual special because while there were a ton of great jokes, there was nothing that I thought should have been in the original special. The best jokes/songs just wouldn’t have fit the theme or style of Inside, but are fascinating to watch in this format.
It's become clear to me as I watch this that Bo had an entire album of Jeff Bezos songs ready to roll if he wanted
Found this absolutely fascinating. It was super interesting to see that song at the beginning that morphed into the verses of Problematic, and also those cascades of alternate takes going bad. Completely agree that the most impressive part of the whole thing is that he edited himself so well. I laughed uncontrollably at that peanut butter sandwich bit, more than anything in Inside, but I’m also glad it was cut, because it doesn’t fit the mood of the special. If I had been in his position, I would not have wanted to leave something that good on the cutting room floor. Incredible job.
