I wanted to go see Jurassic Park today, despite 3D, but I don’t want to deal with extra people due to the $4 thing. Maybe later this week.
This was fine. Not great, not terrible, occasionally quite fun, but overall fine, which is what I expected. That Motley Crue action scene with the family in the bug was wild in what felt like unintended ways. Why were they just casually impaling baddies after Jaime’s whole “I’m not a killer” thing? (Though between the grandma’s revolutionary streak and the ending, what they were trying to say in general wasn’t super coherent, lol.) And… why did they play “Kickstart My Heart” so soon after the dad died of a heart attack??? The Blue Beetle legacy stuff was cool from a comics history perspective. I like that they had the Golden Age Blue Beetle costume and talked about Dan Garrett, and also had Ted Kord’s costume with a very pure Steve Ditko design. Those Charlton comics (and the earlier version of Garrett from I think Fox Comics) are technically in the public domain, even though DC has the Charlton trademarks, so you can legally read scans of that Golden & Silver Age material and do whatever you want with it (to a point). So funny to me that the cinematographer & composer were Ari Aster collaborators. Nothing about the look & feel of the movie made it seem like that, lol, though bits of score sounded cool enough for what it was. Which I guess is the core takeaway of the film: “cool enough for what it was,” I guess!
Enjoyed this. Felt a little too long, but overall a solid movie. Interested to see what they do with the character in the DCU. The suit looks great.
Really enjoyed this, Blue Beetle is such an awesome concept for a superhero, so I’m glad they may be sticking around Some of the body horror was surprising lol also the action scenes were choreographed so well, and the camerawork was clear yet exciting
The main actor and Jenny were great, the others were fine, but that sister was so annoying. It was fine, I try my best not to look at my phone during movies, most of the time I get engrossed enough where I don't have to, but I constantly felt myself drawn to it. There wasn't enough Blue Beetle stuff in it, so much typical family stuff and there were some weird choices. Overall, I think it's not a bad jumping off point because the main character and now he interacts with the villains and his suit is entertaining. That credits scene was so dumb though. I can't wait to see how the DCU gets rebooted.
