He'll also be heading out on tour supporting Tyler, the Creator in the fall.
Didn’t really get into Negro Swan, I need to revisit it. Excited for the new record though, can’t wait to hear it.
Blood Orange Announces New Mixtape Angel’s Pulse | Pitchfork
My ranking of Blood Orange albums so far:
1. Freetown Sound
2. Negro Swan
3. Cupid Deluxe
Cupid Deluxe has some of his best songs, but also some of his worst. There are too many features on there imo. When I listen to Blood Orange, I want to hear Dev Hynes' angelic voice lol.
Freetown Sound is his best by a mile, such a fantastic album
Freetown Sound and Negro Swan probably have even more vocalists all over the albums though. Freetown Sound is, I think, undeniably his best work yet. But Cupid Deluxe is not far after and it has my favorite Blood Orange song ("Chamakay") and a great Skepta verse.
Dev Hynes' vocals are front and centre for most of Freetown Sound and Negro Swan though. On at least 50% of the songs on Cupid Deluxe he's basically just a background singer, if present at all.
I think Chamakay might be my favourite too.
Yeah, afterwards I figured that was more along the lines of what you meant. He figured out how to integrate the different voices into his work better with Freetown Sound.
I still love Cupid Deluxe the most by far, just think that album is perfect for what it is and I still go back to it often. I get why others don't like it as much, it's definitely the most straight forward and less ambitious than the others. Excited for whatever he does though, it's always solid.
I think Freetown Sound is a masterpiece
So is his first album worth listening to? Somehow I've never checked that one out.
I guess I need to revisit Freetown Sound.
It reminds me a lot of Toro y Moi if that means anything to you lol
I really like it
Here for it. Love Cupid Deluxe and Freetown Sound. Haven’t returned to Negro Swan too much, but maybe I will today.
Blood Orange – “Baby Florence”
Oh shit Joba from Brockhampton is on here
Was this the opening band for Florence and the Machine a month or 2 ago? We liked the sound that came from them. Very nice.
This is really good. Flows in a similar Way to the Solange record this year, more concerned with mood than anything else. But it’s still loaded with incredible moments and the feature list is pretty wild.
enjoying this quite a bit at work rn
