I know it's a super early response, but if it's getting people to think it's better than Spy, then wow
I had no idea this was directed by Kay Cannon. Spy is one of my favorite comedies from recent years so that's an interesting comparison. I'll probably check it out even if the concept is a little iffy
Hearing some call it a "female American Pie", which doesn't sound promising ...the American Pie part, I mean
I'm ok with this comparison. I loved American Pie when I was 14 and it came out, so I have a soft spot in my heart for it.
I liked this enough. Offhand, I'd say the only gripe I have is the arguable funniest part of the movie was revealed in the trailers. Regardless, I'm glad to have another straight comedy that made me laugh more than a handful of times. John Cena made this film for me
It looks like this has an earlier release in the UK. I saw it yesterday and it was pretty average and verging into borderline shit. One positive is that Ike Barinholtz character was the only one that seemed to be consistently funny throughout the film. Also, there is a character from Suits in this briefly and is playing a completely different role from suits... haha!
I went to a screening tonight and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Some of the gross humor isn’t my thing, but the overall story was good. I liked that there was actually a point and not just gross/raunchy comedy for no reason. One scene I had seen in a trailer sadly didn’t make the movie and I was bummed cause it looked hilarious.
Just got back. It's pretty good and better than I expected. All I can really judge Kay Cannon's work off so far are the Pitch Perfect movies, which I really hate, but I thought she did a fine job directing, especially for a debut. John Cena and Ike Barinholtz are both great and do a great job of selling a lot of their stuff. It's formulaic, but I laughed a good amount of the time. There's also a queer subplot for one of the girls that works well and was a nice surprise. Spoiler below... I also liked the moral flexability the film has. It doesn't really pick a line either way of saying, "This was the right decision" for what these kids do. I like that it treats each character like actual people and allows them to make their own decision in the end about whether you should or shouldn't lose your virginity on prom night, and doesn't try to have a message bigger than, "Do you what you think is right." That was great to see and a moral you don't see much, especially in these kinds of films.
I overhyped myself for this, solid movie with a couple really hysterical scenes. John Cena did kill it though.
this was just ok. not too many LOL parts. was a little let down. but Cena and the other guy were great. I just found the 3 adult characters relationship just thrown together
A couple of parts saved this from being downright awful, but still not very good — not sure why it’s getting so much praise.
