In case this wasn't shared yet, Louise and Russell have another band with plenty of bops. Not too far from Bloc Party's early sound at times.
Musically it’s easily the closest thing to Silent Alarm they’ve done, and is awesome start to finish. Lyrically, however, about 80 percent of this record I have no idea what kele is going for and I don’t connect with it at all. It pretty much knocks it down to being only higher than hymns in my album rankings. ‘of things yet to come’ is probably my favorite
On my first listen, got it on in the background, but wow this is kind of sounding like a return to form so far!
the second it started, i thought i was going to hate callum is a snake, but it's kind of awesome haha. so far this album is a lot better than i anticipated
hope this gets some traction as it's probably their most consistent since weekend traps, callum, if we get caught, in situ, day drinker are all great
Think HYMNS would have been better received if there had been a place for the eventual bonus tracks. Something like Eden Only He Can Heal Me Virtue The Good News Fortress New Blood Different Drugs My True Name Paraíso Exes Evening Song
this is... pretty solid, and definitely going back in the right direction. still some cringeworthy stuff, and Kele's lyrics are just beyond self-parody at this point, but Day Drinker and If We Get Caught are their best stuff since Montreal. cautiously optimistic again
Four has some good ones, especially the calmer tracks (Day Four, The Healing) - they just really nailed the vibe they were going for with those.
cheers for posting this! been listening to them all day and these are some serious tunes. Louise is somehow as good a vocalist as she is a drummer, it's unfair
I totally forgot this came out last week. Gave it a listen at the gym tonight and was pleasantly surprised! Definitely felt like a return to form.
Only song I don’t like lyrics too that stand out are the closer I generally love the catty and sexual nature of them
