I think Tom insisted on it and didn't want so much time to pass between releases. IIRC it was somewhat rushed.
To make a long story short they weren’t under a label anymore and Tom wanted to use this EP to springboard Modlife, which lend to more issues with the band and Tom checked out completely and left the band again a year later.
I think Mark talked about it in his book a little bit. Tom was adamant about getting something released and it did tie into other stuff he was doing so it felt disingenuous to Mark and Travis. Was a decent follow up to Neighborhoods, but that whole original 09 reunion era had a stale air feeling about it like they weren’t really there.
Every time I listen to the bridge, I remember Zane Lowe congratulating Travis on the production and saying, “there are moments where it feels like the album is gonna take off”. I choose to believe he was referring to that bridge.
That bridge of WWWY reminds me so much of TOYPAJ. Especially after jamming TOYPAJ so much as of late.
Yeah these guys earnt the right to rest for a while haha. I saw Mark in Auckland for his book tour and he seemed very content
