IMO they really let Travis cook as a producer and I am totally fine with that. They are also in their 50’s so I accept some extra touching up. I think Neighborhoods has less of the “slick production” and it doesn’t make it more punk or authentic to me. If you listen to isolated vocals on all the blink releases it’s pretty heavily produced. Untitled probably has the best mix of a major label production with the most heart and soul. Personally OMT is as perfect of a blink album in the 2020’s we could have asked for. At the expense of opening a can of worms it’s so fun to think of which modern producer they would be in the best hands with on a future release. I’d be pretty surprised if Travis wasn’t the guy for the next couple though.
Agree. Like Childhood would hit so much harder if the chorus wasn't so fake loud/intense/robo-Tom vocals.
Merging the reality of what the guys sound like now and the reality of currently popular music I think OMT sounds about as good as it could.
Childhood is really rough to listen to for me production-wise. There are plenty other nitpicks but most don't ruin anything on original OMT. But I think on the deluxe Travis really refined a lot and most of deluxe is pretty perfect
I’d be interested to hear Travis’ production on new blink since hearing the new Yellowcard album. Quite a difference from OMT to Better Days if you ask me. In a good way too.
Other Side is the Shut Up of OMT. Pure filler and should have been replaced with One Night Stand/one of the songs they originally recorded that didn’t make the OMT cut but was on OMT 2.
I don’t skip anything when I do OMT 1&2, but childhood ranks low. Also pt2 has a couple songs that easily could have made the album. One of the better expanded albums in a minute. Cant go back and Everything Everywhere in particular are killer. Really loved they put can’t go back in the set.
Oh yeah, I forgot Edging is on OMT haha. That song feels like a standalone single to me. But yeah, Edging can go on the list too. The main throwaway one to me is When We Were Young. That chorus still really doesn’t work for me.
People can be really weird. I saw a comment recently on Instagram from a guy saying Give Me One Good Reason was bad.
! That was one of my first favorites from that album when it first came out. Weirdly, the whole album didn't click until like 2023, when I was doing discog runs in anticipation of OMT, so maybe that guy just needs another 20-something years with it.
Nah but how great is Can't Go Back though. It's my favourite release of theirs since they got back together again
I understand the meaning behind the song but it feels like they just needed another Mark only song and put it on the album which is why I compared it to Shut Up.
