I feel like everyone is somehow forgetting how everyone lost their collective minds when that song dropped
I think they said they wrote Edging specifically for the reunion and not many other songs were formed ideas at that point. I have probably gone back and forth with it, but today I am in the boat that it should've just been a standalone. I find myself skipping it on some album run throughs which I typically do not do. Edging was a fun comeback that showed us they were having a blast again and also led to expectations of OMT being blown out of the water the moment we heard Anthem 3 haha.
IMO EDGING is the break in the record before the second half goes off. It’s one of my favorite parts. Almost like a fun interlude.
Stumbled into my annual discography playthrough. Every time I go back to Skiba records thinking “eh” and then two songs in I’m a happy listener. WHAT’S THE POINT OF SAYING SORRY NOWWWW
Def have my vote for Edging being a standalone lol I'm definitely a full album guy but I made trimmed down deluxe versions with California and OMT that I enjoy more. Although I can listen to both the standard editions of those with just a few skips Edit: standard Neighborhoods def had to turn into an EP for me though lol
California is just as good as any other summery blink album and I’m tired of pretending it’s not don’t really care too much for the deluxe though
Facts haha. Random take I haven’t really seen shared here, but I am a big fan of One Night Stand from OMT…pt. 2. I think the production is excellent versus other songs on the album. The harmonies during chorus and the overlapping vocals at the end are a real treat. Some classic silly Tom lyrics but I can look past it haha
California suffers from being bloated with similar sounding songs, and no memorable riffs. Cut down a bit, it would be an album I’d consider revisiting more often. I go back to it just about as much as Neighborhoods, which is nottttt often.
I still feel like Nine was much better than California. They utilized Skiba a lot better, and it has Darkside, Generational Divide, Pin the Grenade, and No Heart to Speak Of, which are more or less classic Blink songs to my ears. And that’s not even including the other songs I love like Heaven, Black Rain, Ransom, etc. California/Deluxe has Bored to Death, which is a classic Blink song, but it has other songs I love She’s Out of Her Mind, San Diego, Rabbit Hole, The Only Thing That Matters, and the bridge to Misery.
I want to say I read/heard an interview from someone in the blink camp (not sure if it was Mark, Tom, Travis or maybe Aaron Rubin) but I believe there were only 3 songs that were recorded around the time Edging dropped and one of them was No Fun. I think that was the first song Tom wrote after he officially rejoined the band.
Nine >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cali, but aside from a few tracks I don't really think either are essential at all
