Yup. I’ve always been convinced these people who hate the skiba era would love most of those songs if they were the exact same but had Tom playing on them instead lol

 

Or if they didn’t know that it wasn’t just Mark, Travis and Matt writing it or who the producers were.

 

I’m a Tombot and a Skibabot but boy some of those songs are just big stinkers no matter who the songwriters were.

Skiba era helped bridge the gap for blink not becoming a nostalgia act. You can love Tom and still acknowledge he sabotaged the band multiple times. Without him, they wrote some great songs.

 

Tom does his best work in blink. Skiba does his best work in Alkaline Trio.

I haven’t heard it yet, but I’m already preparing my thoughts on how it stacks up to Neighborhoods and California so I can be ready to tell everyone how wrong they are.

 

I think Skiba really stepped up when blink was in a rough spot, and I’m glad blink is still around thanks to him. I just wish the songs were better! That’s all. There’s a few good ones though!

 

It would be hard to be worse than Neighborhoods. If it’s better than Nine, I’ll be happy. Nine was great, an even better album would be awesome. California is good, hopefully this won’t be worse than that.

Where the fuck is this song

 

My main problem with the Skiba era, especially on California, is Matt seemed to have very little songwriting freedom/control. It felt like the producer had more songwriting control than the band member.

He got to go “full Skiba” here and there on a couple California songs, and even more so on Nine, but when they announced he was replacing Tom, I fully expected them to go the Untitled direction again and not just revert back to the Enema kind of sound, which I very rarely connect with anymore when newer bands try it.

The fact that Alkaline Trio released such a great album right after California being pretty lackluster to me really put salt in the wound too.


BUT ANYWAYYYYYYY!!! I HOPE THEY ANNOUNCE THE NEW SONG/ALBUM TODAY!

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they announce the album until a week before its release haha

 

I’m a massive fan of the Skiba era but yah. I never understood the love for this song. A lot of people got so excited over it.

 

Also you want to talk about bad Tom lyrics but defend this?

I will defend On Some Emo Shit to the death. Those aren’t bad lyrics. The bridge is great too.
