I don’t think there was any real beef. Atom has always been a road dog / studio guy and ava wasn’t operating like a full time band for a while so he found other work. Tom has said in interviews they wanted to bring him back for the shows pre covid but it didn’t work out

I'd maybe check out some of these videos if they were just positioned as "I covered a song" instead of "if Blink-182 did it!" -- cause ... you ain't blink, just be you and cover a song but in a pop-punk way.

 

especially because they rarely sound like Blink. they just sound like a pop punk band covering a song haha. they're done really well though, i'll give him that.

Yep. Just be you, man. I watched like 2 of his videos years ago and was burnt out VERY quickly.

 

I get what you're saying, but Alex does a great job when doing these. When he does a "Blink-style" cover, he does a lot of Travis-style beats/fills and sometimes will do the Tom accent. He puts in the extra detail, which I think sets him apart from others. And not every pop punk cover he does is a "what if Blink wrote..".

Yeah, I don't think it sounds anything actually like the band I've been listening to for like 25 years. At all. Feel free to be inspired by Blink-182, hundreds of bands are, but like in print, I find music (and video) click-bait titles to be a shitty gimmick. I listen to lots of covers, and being a good cover artist is cool!, and pop-punk bands have a LONG history of covering pop songs!, but I find the "I wrote a song like how someone else I'm not would write it" to be lowest common denominator stuff. Like asking ChatGPT to write a paragraph in a famous author's style, it comes out feeling even more cheapened because of the presentation.

 

I'm sure he titles them that way just for the sake of the algorithm.

 

Lol I just looked up "if blink wrote" on YouTube and there's a "what if +44 wrote Adam's Song" lmao

 

I just do not find any of his stuff enjoyable. Glad other people do, just not for me.

I agree that it doesn't really sound like blink in this case, but its great nonetheless. He does have some past videos where he does a band-inspired style mash up and those are very well done and I can totally hear the similarities.
