My hot take is that the Tom songs were generally consistently weaker than Mark songs through EOTS. TOYPAJ is more even. There are exceptions like Enthused and Untitled. But I’d take almost any Mark song over any Tom songs until TOYPAJ.

Disagree with that pretty strongly, the Cheshire through Enema run is even as hell in my book. Carousel, Dick Lips, I’m Sorry, Untitled, Anthem, Mutt…there’s a ton of Tom songs as good as the best Mark songs imo. Going Away to College and Apple Shampoo are really the only two songs that made me pause to question if there’s an equivalent Tom track, and I think there for sure is on that list and among others.

I just think it makes total sense why the label approached Tom about doing a solo album after TOYPAJ and not earlier.

the lyrics do not hold up at all. The one highlight of that song is Mark’s bass playing.

Tom matured a good bit lyrically between Enema and TOYPAJ. Obviously, not counting joke songs as they’re jokes. Anthem Part 2 and Please Take Me Home are probably the best example of his growth between albums. I’ll throw it What Went Wrong, too, despite being only a bonus track.

I mean nostalgia is a hell of a drug and I still scream the lyrics when I jam the album. But I can’t look at it and go, wow, that’s a great song. In context in its time, yea, it fits. But I’m not 13 anymore.

As long as Anthem Pt 3 stays since they had to skip it at the shows I went to!

In the grand scheme of TOYPAJ I'd agree, but then you get a lyric like "I hate the jocks, the preps, the hippie fucking scumbags. Heavy metal-ers with their awful pussy hair bands."

    Bring back Carousel and Turpentine.

  18. besides the OMT songs they've already played, and i assume will keep playing, i'd love to see these songs get added into the set at some point.

you don't know what you've got
    blink wave
    bad news
    every other weekend

and god dammit, play carousel and josie.

    Ronstile.

It would be cool to get Skilba out for BTD every night and one off songs from that era with him. They talked about dropping Elevator in the set and that would be really cool to see. I don’t expect a massive departure and will be really surprised to see a big switch up.

Was 100% expecting to read comments like "so it'll be the same greatest hits set with Josie and Apple Shampoo rotating".

I'd love for more OMT songs, but are they still focused on them at this point in the cycle? I honestly see them keeping the same OMT songs they've been playing and throw in some Untitled and TOYPAJ songs they were missing. Maybe they'll keep Can't Go Back in there, but I really think that was just to add hype for OMT2. Add a rotating Dude Ranch song and that'd be "shaking up the setlist". That's just me trying to not get my hopes too high.

Songs I want to hear: Not Now, MTYK, Stockholm Syndrome or Easy Target, Wendy Clear, Hearts All Gone, Dogs Eating Dogs, Reckless Abandon, and any heavier Matt-era song if we're gettin a little Skiba action.

I'm going to the first tour date in FL which will be the first time I see a blink tour on the first night. That means no setlist spoilers, whether I want them or not!

Oh, I hate GMOGR. That and Reckless Abandon are the real exceptions for Tom on TOYPAJ, especially if you include the bonus tracks. Compare the rest to Enema songs and it’s a nice step up.

Reckless Abandon…bad exception? We are listening to this band differently from one another, Greg.

We’re talking lyrics. Do you think those lyrics are great?

  24. Surfwax

Definitely not, but they work for the mood of the song, which in most cases is all I ask from Blink lyrics. Always struck me as an elite tier blink song, so calling it even a lyrical exception just wasn’t something that’s ever crossed my mind.
