The book and this thread has got me wanted to do a Blink universe discography run. Going in a random order, just finished Whisper and I Empire, gonna do Neighborhoods and +44 tonight.

I know those AVA albums are divisive but damn did they bring me right back to college listening just now. I'm sure +44 will do the same.

There's a ton of really good acts. Like screeching weasel and buzzcocks are just listed there those guys are legends. H2O, bouncing souls, ataris. Big ass truck if you're down with the hardcore.

Should be fun for anyone who goes.

Well today I learned that Mark dated Elyse from DHC and that Josie was the name of her dog.

 

Apple Shampoo is about Elyse and DHC wrote Nothing Left To Say in response to Apple Shampoo.

 

Would love to hear what Tre Cool’s response would be to that.

 

Spun Dude Ranch last night and now into EOTS right now. Man, the Finn and Barker addition really took them to the next level. Dude Ranch is such a fun record, but EOTS really turned up their song structuring and also pushed their boundaries and skill. Buddha, Chesh, and Dude Ranch had all similar kick-snare-kick-snare fast punk and EOTS really allows each song to breathe and have different segments. Really enjoying pairing Mark’s book with the different albums.

Who else got way too excited today when they opened Spotify and it said “new release from +44”?

Turns out to be some rando using the same name and Spotify put his track on the band’s page.

Would love for Mark to put out the tracks that were intended for LP2 similar to the BCR tease that ultimately became TERRIFIED. Bonus points if Skiba gets a feature on a song.

 

I just finished the chapter about +44 in the book. Man he really rips into Tom and AVA there lol
I still kick myself for not going to that Honda Civic Tour in 2007, didnt know it was my only chance to see them!

 

I do appreciate his unfiltered review of it. He could've just glazed by it like "AVA was ok, their album was alright" but he was basically like "Tom was crazy and the album sucked." And Tom and Mark have since put that all behind them, so I don't think Tom would be too upset reading it.

 

I’m sure due to all the drama and emotions at the time that Tom thinks +44 sucks too.

 

Mark has stated in numerous interviews during his book promotion that everything he’s written about Tom he has said to his face so he’s not worried about Tom getting upset.

Completed the TOYPAJ and Untitled parts of my discog run. i feel like you can hear the wheels turning with Ton of what would become BCR in songs like Story of a Lonely Guy And Please Take Me Home. Also, forgot how much of a banger Roller Coaster is.

On Untitled, Feeling This is one of the greatest songs they’ve ever written. There’s no other song like it. I Miss You is wildly popular and maybe overplayed, but man what a masterpiece of a song. And Go is such a banger.

 

I just finished TOYPAJ on my discog run tonight! It honestly was taking EOTS and pushing it through a playdough former and cutting and refining to create such an epic pop punk album. Each song is catchy. I think EOTS has the better singles, but TOYPAJ is such a cohesive album as a whole.
