there's a thread on the blink reddit going on about how Mark isn't taking any ownership at all about the breakups and just 100% dumping it on Tom. For example he blames Tom for the 2014 break up but doesn't discuss what he did at reading.

For those who have read it so far what do you think about claims like that?

    Things have changed.

He does discuss what he did at Reading.

What - he fucked around and let Tom play with his little sound machine for too long as a joke?

Is that the same thread where the person who posted it called it "sus" that Mark didn't talk about "all the criticism towards Feldmann and the co-writers" as if that's something he needed to address or was even important to anything? haha

I'll be honest, they got me with that one lol. I ended up feeling bad for Tom, simply because I unfairly blamed him for that at first. I thought it was just him being pretentious and dragging it out way too long, not realizing the other guys were the ones responsible for that as a sort of prank.

I'll be reading more to on it this weekend when I get to the book - didn't know it was a bigger issue. I saw them at their 'final' show in Vegas prior to the breakup and they seemed ok.

Oh I don't really mean that it was a big deal. I only meant I felt bad for him because people (i.e. me) thought that that was just Tom being pretentious and dragging things out too long when it was really Mark and Travis playing a prank on him. I just meant that I personally felt bad for Tom about the way I interpreted that situation.

The book will be a good template for the eventual biopic that gets made

Haha well, just to clarify - that post on Reddit was accusing Mark of bragging on himself and "playing the hero" for what they did to Tom at the Reading Festival show.

In the book, Mark describes the show as being fun and going off really well but claims that he and Travis were a bit frustrated with Tom for how drunk he was. Tom even made a comment beforehand about how he was so drunk that he didn't even know if he could make it through the show.

Mark and Travis let Tom do his little gimmick with the synth before the encore, but when he got out there, they decided to fuck with him and make him panic a bit by not going out for two whole minutes. Mark actually does describe it as sort of "sending him a message" or punishing him for being so drunk, but it's clearly in a lighthearted way.

The Redditor is making it out to be much more malicious than it was. Or like Mark saw himself as the adult reprimanding the child or something. Like usual, they were repeatedly being purposely uncharitable to him.

People are taking that reading thing way too seriously, imo. Already heard about it in Mark's apple podcast and now in the audiobook and both times it was just Mark and Travis just dying having a laugh at Tom for a couple minutes as sorta pay ack for having them worry earlier with him being drunk, but he looks real fondly upon that show and thinks they crushed. Idk if I'm just missing something other people are but it was a funny story to me and not one of contention for the band.

I think people reading are having trouble comprehending Mark's unserious tone. Like do people think he's actually taking credit for American Idiot and the capture of Sadam Hussein?

Mark did write all of American Idiot.
