Really cool interview, had no idea the same guy did all those blink covers and NFG’s Self Titled and S&S.

  5. I thought it was really interesting that that one dude in the Enema insert 1. is Rick DeVoe’s nephew, and 2. is also the model for the BCR cover!

    Things have changed.

The interview made me a little uncomfortable in spots. Weird dynamic between the two of them. Guy was a little curt.

Every time I listen to Lycanthrope I feel like I'm 14 again. Something about that song instantly takes me back to 2006.

Same but for me its Little Death taking me back to 2006 playing Oblivion and Gears of War on my first Xbox 360. My dad had one when I visited him on divorce-kid weekends. My specific memory was summer and I would leave the window open next to my TV which had a great breeze... So.. the "Fall asleep with the windows open.." line and the "Your Car crash in slow motion won't upset the pace on distant stars..." line always made me think of playing those nights and also just the signs in Oblivion that you pick to set up your character.

That record is cemented in time for me too. I feel that way when I am running and listening to the first two AVA records as well. It was really nice in CO last week so +44 didn’t seem appropriate but it’s going to dump snow tonight. lol Waiting for my annual mid winter play through lol.

Didn’t discover that +44 album (aside from WYHSB single) until wayyy later. Lycanthrope was like a punch in the face in a good way and made me wonder why they didn’t use that as the lead single. I totally see WYHSB being way more accessible, it was just insane that Mark and Travis still had that killer energy and I loved it.

Listened to +44 this morning. Of all the Blink universe albums this one always crushes because I probably have less plays than most others. BCR feels like a one off side project. With +44 I really wish there were more releases from them. This listen I can really hear some pop influences in Marks vocal takes. Lillian is my favorite Mark Bridge ever. Baby Come On is a top 5 Mark song. After this listen I kind of wish he would have done this song instead of Heart Stops Beating on the last tour. I love No, it Isn’t. Every time Make You Smile comes on I wish we would have gotten a full album with Carol. Full on Punk Rock Postal Service. Another highlight for me is the Chapter 13 part where it gets quiet before the outro. I am hot on the idea of Mark inviting in Matt to bring back +44. I think they’re such a strong duo and a record without all the intense expectations of blink would bring something special imo that probably plays to both of their strengths in a different way. Really love that this record exists. Essential mid winter album for me.

I used to shuffle Box Car Racer and +44 in a playlist shortly before Neighborhoods came out in anticipation of a new blink album. Both albums are so amazing and Neighborhoods was so not. I'm so happy we got some life back in Nine and OMT.

I haven’t revisited Neighborhoods much since the Skilba era but loved it when it was the last new thing we had. I should do a play through soon. I would say that BCR and +44 are much better albums than neighborhoods off the top of my head though.

They are absolutely both better. Each of those projects had members that actually wanted to be there and cared about the album. Can’t be said for Neighborhoods.

Whilst there are some staples on there, I largely agree. Jerry Finn was massively missing on this release and it didn't help they recorded most of the songs separately. Tensions always felt still on the edge during this area looking back which is a massive contrast to where they are now.

Thanks to @ChampsMusic I got a Neighborhoods play through in. My God I love this album. Suffers big time from the production and was severely needing a neutral producer to take the good ideas and make them more cohesive. I love Up All Night as a song on the album but really am not a fan of it in the setlist. Feels like their best attempt at blink meets ADTR but falls flat live. I like Neighborhoods better than NINE. I think Tom being 1/3 of a pretty disjointed release is better than them filling in the Tom missing piece with the cowrites. That album feels more like a Frankenstein record to me than this one. Also I love Travis’s drum parts on this album. If I have one complaint about OMT it is that he seems to have taken on a big influence from Feldman to use drums as a way to infuse classic pop punk into his production and it results in simpler more straight forward beats. Dude was cooking on Neighborhoods. This is Home and MH.4.18.2011 are two of the dumbest blink songs in the whole catalogue but I love them so much. Kind of insane that OMT is the follow up to Neighborhoods with Tom in the picture. Enjoyed that listen way more than I thought I would. Mark, Tom, and Travis on a pretty sub par album for them > the majority of pop punk bands out there firing on all cylinders.

I love Neighborhoods too but a lot of that has to do with the time of my life and how it was a soundtrack to me at age 21.
It's a deeply flawed album of course for many logistical reasons, but fuck, I love it.
