“Sunrise always gives us the creeps” sounds like such a Matt Skiba lyric and I love that it exists in a blink song. “Emo Shit” is a big highlight of the Skiba era for me.

I was at the Twitchcon set and they played Darkside. It ruled. It was open on the field at Petco Park and I was probably 2-3 rows of people back. It was the closest I will ever be and the show was free. Also my only Skiba show. I remember loving the show, but feeling that it felt a little tired and lack luster. The crowd was pretty tepid too, but it was at an event that wasn’t necessarily for the blink audience. I regret not going to a show while they were touring on California on a big high.

Seeing them with Tom this summer was by far the best and highest energy blink set I’ve ever seen. I hope they get a NINE song in the set at some point. The album deserves some love in this era of blink. I would gladly have them take Up All Night or any of the legacy songs that we are all ready to see retired out to put one in. Personally loved all the OMT love on the most recent tour, but I am curious how the set changes after the OMT hype dies down.

Actually went back and listened to Nime again because of how much I missed it.
    Highs:
    No Heart
    Darkside
    Black Rain
    Rub Away
    Pin the Grenade
    Hungover You
    First Time

    Mid:
    Heaven
    Generational Divide
    Ransom
    Emo S
    Remember To Forget Me

Unfortunately gets weighed down by some clunkers:
    Happy Days
    BIOMY
    IRWIHY

Final verdict is that this sits above Neighbs and Cali, but still in this purgatory between not their prime and OMT.

NINE is such an underrated album that unfortunately came out during a weird time with the band. The album release date was delayed and ended up coming out on the last day of their summer tour (which wasn’t as successful as the band wanted coming off of the California Tour which was massive) and then COVID hit so they never got to go out on the road to support it. The label (and band) seemed to completely ignore the album once it was released probably due to the lukewarm reactions of their first 2 singles, BIOMY and Happy Days, which happened to be the weakest songs on the album which probably led to the seemingly poorer attendance of their summer tour that they had to switch to an Enema Anniversary tour to help boost sales.

In an alternate universe if the album would have been released in June/July at the start of their tour with Darkside being the lead single I think fans would be more fond of that record.

Very similar sentiments for me on the unevenness of this record and the highs and lows. I do really like generational divide tho. somewhere i remember mark saying they kind of beat it to death as a full song, so they just kept it short, but I think it could have been the Hearts All Gone of this record if it had more time to cook. loved the video too. Runaway is my favorite song on the album probably. I just love the 808 so seamlessly working in that song and the chorus is peak stuff from Skiba.

If they could have put out a stellar first single that got some radio play I think the consensus would have been a lot different. I really don’t like BIOMY. everytime I go back to play the record I listen to the whole song hoping i’ll find something I like and it’s just such a lame song.

I know it’s probably a couple years out, but what do we think the next album will shape up to be? I’d be cool if it’s another progression forward the way OMT part 2 brought in some interesting new elements but was largely similar to OMT. I do think they have untitled levels of creativity from them. Like not untitled part 2, but more swinging for the fences creatively.

I don’t think this would happen but 3 EP’s or short albums with each member driving the train on production and song structure going wild with their personal tastes would be something i’d love to hear at this point in their musical career. One song with Tom, Mark, and Matt would be very sick. interested to hear everyone’s take.

I used to be obsessed with this performance. Mark was on top of his game with +44.

Baby Come On might be my favorite song written by Mark. That or Going Away to College

In 2006 I would have chosen AvA over +44 but one day I grew up and realized that +44 is so much better

Yeah, but I do believe it would be radically different with the present dynamics. One more time with feeling baby. I don’t think it’s going to happen but i’d love to see what they come up with. each member has seriously stretched different muscles in the last 15 years. travis has the hip hop / samples, WILD drum parts from the untitled / transplants era as well as his covid era classic pop punk production style. Mark has the very dark and brooding +44 style plus his simple creatures - skiba era radio pop thing going, as well as PTG and Bad News feeling like early 00’s golden era pop punk. Tom has refined his nursery rhymes on speed recently that is way better than what he brought to the table during neighborhoods, and his post hardcore inclinations have ruled since lifeforms and OMT. I just think it would be cool if they did it with the level of security and feel good vibes going on in this era. It kind of happened really seamlessly on OMT but it would be cool to see each member explicitly have 3-4 songs in the drivers seat with the other members sprinkling in what they do as well.

Love all the +44 hype. The album was made to be listened to in February. Definitely going to do a play through this week.

It really is a shame they split up, I think both Mark and Tom were at the top of their game, the follow up to Untitled could have been incredible. I think Baby Come On or The War could have been top blink songs.

They both provided me what I was longing for in a time when blink was non-existent. Mark provided the doom and gloom and Tom provided the hope during an era of multiple losses for my family.

I will never forget it....I messaged the AVA myspace page in a moment of WTF after my Grandma, aunt, and uncle all died months apart thanking them for the hopeful and positive songs. Guess who responded? Fucking Tom did. Met him a month later at the Chicago show and he remembered my message.
