I hear some slight Lifeforms influences on OMT but not as overly-annoying as initially hearing the AVA influence on Neighborhoods.

If I understand the timeline that Tom and Travis have been giving, I think Terrified was written and mostly recorded before Euphoria.

Chris Cote just did this podcast too, never knew he was Travis’ first drum tech:

I think of “Lifeforms” as a Tom record not an AVA record. I don’t know if that makes sense. I agree with you, there’s a lot of passion in that album, and a lot of energy that previous AVA was missing.

There's a whole lot of back and forth on when Terrified was made, and Lifeforms took a long time to record and sat completed for over a year. It is unclear which song was written or completed first, but I was mostly saying I see a trajectory in Tom's passion for being a musician in that covid pre blink reunion era that really went wild when they made OMT.

Also unintentionally went down the blink rabbit hole yesterday. Biked home from work and let OMT rip. Pretty unbelievable that we have this record. From Anthem to Edging would have been a perfectly adequate comeback album from a legacy band. Then the record just takes off on rocket fuel until the end. I personally love this period of time when an album that means a lot to me has been out long enough to be familiar with every part and enjoy every moment from start to finish.

If memory serves, the only thing that existed of Terrified prior to them getting into the studio for OMT was the verses and chorus

I can’t really articulate at the moment why I feel this way, but this album is one of the only things in the past several years that has made life feel normal and kind of okay? Whenever I listen to it, things just feel right. I am still so unbelievably happy that they managed to craft this record.

  13. I barely listen to the radio (only when my “CarPlay” doesn’t work), and I always hear “one more time” or “I miss you” and “what’s my age again” on occasion.

Speaking of radio singles Fell in Love and When We Were Young have really grown on me. Genuinely enjoy when they pop on during a play-through. I feel like Fell in Love belongs on the radio. I have come to appreciate those songs being the most explicit nod to the feldman / skiba era. Not in my top songs on the record but they definitely belong in this batch of songs.

Nothing sets me off more than when I get in the car and the CarPlay doesnt link up.

For realllll. I don’t get angry and honestly forget I’m even capable of feeling that way up until the moment my CarPlay doesn’t work.

Absolutely insane how this fan base comes up with such polarizing takes. I'm convinced the Reddit heads that think Neighborhoods is the greatest album is because it was the first CD they ever bought and are just stuck in their neural nostalgia for that shitty reunion.

  20. THANK GOD I'm not the only one! It's so fucking annoying haha. And I still haven't found a sure-fire way to fix it. Sometimes I'll turn the car off and back on again, but no dice. And then if I go into a store for a minute and come back, it will work. It doesn't make any sense but it drives me absolutely crazy. Especially if I have a long drive.

Do you happen to have a Subaru? That’s exactly what happens to me. There’s no way to fix it other than turning the car off for a few minutes and hoping for the best. And because the Subaru head units are so bad, if CarPlay isn’t working, it’s rare that Bluetooth will work either. Ugh.

Although I guess that’s better than the time the head unit just refused to shut off with the rest of the car and I had to disconnect the car battery -_-

The chat is mysterious and important.

My Sube still has the CarPlay where you have to plug in your phone to connect.
Nothing worse than when you unplug and your radio starts blaring at peak volume.
And yes, it's 50/50 on whether you get a solid connection or not.
    It really is infuriating technology.
