Loving getting a little bts action from travis. NINE was a huge step forward in travis actively writing songs and adding parts. I loved the 808’s and programmed drums sprinkled throughout. DWM parts immediately stuck out to me. It’s so rad he was the producer on this record. He has a much clearer direction and voice than when Neighborhoods was frankensteined between tom and marks studios.

I REALLY wish the tom joke part was in the fade out of the song before DWM than at the beginning of it.

 

Still can’t get over how good Dance With Me is.

 

The mark pre chorus sounds like his very poppy inclinations on NINE or simple creatures, but when it’s set to a straight forward punk song it just sounds so much more naturally integrated into the blink sound. IMO dance with me captures the blink eternal youth ethos without being so outrageously explicit about it and i love it.

I’ve been cooling it on the new songs. can’t wait to hit play on a long run 10/20.

Also listening to Neighborhoods right now and this album sounds like someone is smothering my speakers with a pillow. Night and Day production compared to the new stuff.

The amount of "effort" I feel from the trio on these new songs compared to Neighborhoods is wild. I don't think they could have created anything like Dance With Me or More Than You Know back then. That amount of complexity in the composition required them to actually work together in person. So good. I do like Neighborhoods, but I know that this album will be miles ahead. (Nine > Neighbs > Cali)

Really feels like Mark is doing his tried and true songwriting, tom is expressing 15 years of penned up angst, and travis is distilling it all through production and his killer parts.

 

that is for sure fake lmao because for some reason fans are obsessed with that “punk kid” song. and while a studio version of a letter to Elise would be great, it doesn’t exist
