I vaguely remember being semi-disappointed by the album version when I finally heard it back in the day. The live videos sounded great and it's still an overall great song, but it feels a little empty (and maybe a little dull?) due to the production. I love the octave chord pattern that Tom does in the chorus, but on the studio version, they are hard to even distinguish. The tempo of the song could also be an issue that I hadn't considered.

After Midnight is probably the best song on the album and really highlights what bad production can do to a song. Those choruses especially sound so much more hollow than they should

"Kaleidoscope" is definitely pretty middle-of-the-road but there's something about Mark's melancholy lyrics in the verses that make it really compelling to me.

I know "This Is Home" gets a lot of flak, and the verse lyrics are certainly awful, but the chorus bangs, especially Mark's harmonies. Classic Hoppus bass chords in the bridge.

  5. "This is Home" should have had "Always" production and it would have sounded much better. I really like the choruses, especially Mark's backing vocals. I don't think song is bad as others say it is. There's much worse songs on this album.

  6. "MH" is another one that I feel like Tom had nothing to do with, musically. It's not his style of guitar playing at all. This is basically a +44 song, and I like it for what it is. As a Blink song though, it's another mediocre one.

    Agree 100%

"Love Is Dangerous" has all of Tom's worst impulses but some cool stuff: Mark's harmonies in the verse, and the moodiness of the intro/reintro that gives it an Untitled feel. By this point in the album, another musical bridge is tiresome.

I think a tour like this probably wasn’t a great reflection of their typical audience though. I know a ton of people who got tickets when these shows were announced that were like “omg Tom’s back!!” who haven’t listened to blink in probably 20 years. Just a full blown nostalgia trip for them. Which is cool, nothing wrong with that. But this was probably the last tour where any sort of “deep cut” would get a real pop.

I vaguely remember one of the neighborhoods leaks having a bunch of songs being slightly faster (wishing well and kaleidoscope in particular) and remember being disappointed at the actual songs being slower and lacking the energy I remember the leaks having. Quickly faded but I think it contributed to part of the whole initial feeling of the album.

  12. "Love is Dangerous" is still not great

"Fighting the Gravity" is again, a +44 song. No involvement from Tom. Some cool ideas but needs more push and pull. And a real ending.

"Even If She Falls" is a great song. Would have liked to hear more pronounced Mark harmonies, but ultimately this song – along with Ghost, After Midnight, Up All Night – are reminders that this record could have been SO much better had they all worked together.

  15. I like the ending, but I agree with everything else you said.

  17. "Even If She Falls" is a top 5 Neighborhoods song. Weird that it's the last song on the album. It doesn't feel like a closer to me at all. The album ends like when a band plays a show and you expect them to come back out for an encore, but the houselights come up instead and everyone just starts leaving really confused.

Isn’t it technically a deluxe song, too?

Technically, but the deluxe Neighborhoods is the real album. The “standard” is just dumb label shit

"Closed for Maintenance Tues. 9/5" could also mean we don't see ANYTHING today right? Just they're doing something behind the scenes today for tomorrow or later this week. Kind of weird to update the site with a date to just say closed for maintenance though..
