That might be my favorite sequencing moment, tbh. The intro acoustic guitar from "One More Time" has the same Box Car Racer sound as "Terrified", but then OMT takes it elsewhere.
Not to dampen or downplay any of Tom's ambitions, but I'm really hoping that he calls it a day with Angels And Airwaves in the near future, or even makes them a 'here and there' band, who plays a festival or show from time to time with low commitment, making it an occasional hobby. Based on this album, and what we love about it so far after a few hours with it, we don't need 2 sides of Tom's songwriting. We just need him to be honest, creative and having fun, while not trying to think about what he "should be", and just be what he is. Sometimes it won't work, but if we get output like today, it'll be awesome a lot of the time. He can get all of that with blink, and as much as I love AVA and have some awesome memories associated there, it might be time.
Bad news sound so much like a new found glory hook, I LOVE IT. Had a friend point it out and now I hear it every time.
I second that. While I enjoyed the Seattle show a ton (big Turnstile fan too) and it was an amazing performance, the trip up there was miserable. First time ever driving in downtown Seattle and I horribly misjudged traffic. Got there right when Turnstile started. Had no idea the parking garage was going to be $75. Then the person with me had work in the morning, so we drove all the way back and got in at 3AM. Would much prefer a 20 min drive to Moda with a $20 garage, and I get home in 25 min. I've thought about this a lot.
Oh yeah, Seattle traffic makes Portland traffic seem like nothing. The only time I’ve seen Blink was on the reunion tour with Weezer up in Auburn, which was even worse. We barely got in by the time Taking Back Sunday played and sat in two hours of traffic that began around Fort Lewis to do so. Ended up leaving before Blink finished so we could avoid the two hour parking lot traffic jam. Didn’t get back to Portland until 3AM, which was rough haha
"Fuck Face" makes me feel like I should be sitting in front of an N64 shredding the warehouse on Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
As a person with an evergrowing playlist called Kickflip Candy that is specifically meant for music that makes me feel exactly like this, this post makes me very excited lol
Ah fuck a clogged ear I hit play anyway. Feels silly hearing some Tom guitar leads sound mushy due to it but I guess this will make for a good story for a first listen years later. Anthem Pt 3 is easily one of the best songs they've ever done. The way it just keeps evolving. Never expected to hear something this urgent from them ever again. When Mark comes back with his shouted higher pitched vocals, I got chills. I loved Neighborhoods but this track already surpasses all the first reunion material.
On Edging now and this is easily my least favourite so far and I still like it. I remember thinking this was a solid comeback single but was hoping for much better from the album and I'm glad it delivered!
Fell In Love is very AVA but in a less... sanitized way than what ended up on the first reunion stuff, if that makes sense? Tom wasn't singing like that at all back then, the difference is night and day.
Holy shit Terrified rips. Didn't know they still had something post-hardcore-ish (mixed with Tom's signature spaciness here and there) in them? That song is fucking huge Also hey I recognize the drums in the bridge! Hello old instagram snippets
the more classic pop punk leaning stuff is usually my least favourite parts of blink albums but Bad News is like the best version of that.
Oh wow When We Were Young's bridge (Always' bridge vibe) with that high pitched synth. Travis learned a lot from Jerry Finn and John Feldmann. edit: Not forgetting about Aaron Rubin, just haven't looked up if he's done that one too.
You Don't Know What You've Got... you know, after years of Tom's reuse of riffs and chord progressions being a meme, I'm happy to finally hear new Blink material with him on which I can't accurately predict what comes next. Goes to show this album wouldn't have been possible not only if the first reunion hadn't happened, but if he hadn't met Ilan Rubin and the latter wouldn't have made him change it up songwriting wise.
Had no idea Tom still had the riffs in Bad News in him. Kinda took me a moment to realize this wasn't a long lost TOYPAJ b-side. Can't believe I'm saying this after getting sick of Tom's overlong spacy intros in his other stuff but Hurt is way too short. Turpentine has some cool stuff happening time signature wise. Feels the most Untitled thing on here. Already a standout. The outro made me lol
Uh where did Childhood come from? This sounds nothing like they've ever done, whether we're talking Blink or any of their other projects.
Overall I think this is really great, I can easily see this becoming my second favourite blink album.
Just caught up and holy (olé) molly my bad for spamming the last page. I'm looking forward to reading your reactions during my work breaks later today and tomorrow. Also can't wait to see what @BTDandFeelingThis thinks of the full thing. This is a really great album and they should be proud of it.
