I’ve already posted this once, but I so badly want them to press vinyl of this with the digital artwork so I can somehow hopefully get that signed someday. That blank white space would be perfect for their signatures below each of their pictures. Would love to frame that
I mean this blows the doors off everything since 2003, I can’t believe how much I love it after one listen
Anthem part 3 is an absolute banger and to open the album with it is such a great decision. Great great album. Fell in love is probably my least favorite.
@Jason Tate would love to hear Aaron’s take on the progression from lifeforms to OMT. Lifeforms feels like Tom’s warmup album to get back to blink and kicking ass. no more guns to edging, euphoria to terrified automatic to blink wav. lots of parallels, lifeforms shaking the dust, omt relentlessly crushing.
Tier 1: All-time blink greats (Some great directions/sounds to follow in future releases here, btw) 1. Anthem Part 3 2. Childhood 3. Turpentine 4. Blink Wave 5. More Than You Know Tier 2: Almost all-time blink greats 6. One More Time 7. Terrified 8. Dance With Me 9. You Don't Know What You've Got Tier 3: Great 10. When We Were Young 11. Hurt (Interlude) Tier 4: Good (Not surprised most of my least favorites have a drier pop punk sound or are skate-punk oriented, since I prefer 2003-2012 blink; this time even the joke songs are good, though. Awesome!) 12. Other Side 13. Edging 14. Bad News 15. Turn This Off! 16. Fuck Face Tier 5: Missteps (Really really wish this could somehow grow on me, if it wasn't included OMT would be my favorite blink album since Neighborhoods right away) 17. Fell In Love
All this hype in the thread and my vinyl won't be here until Saturday. Would love a DM tonight if possible. I am super happy the boys are back together and apparently lived up to the anticipation.
Ironic that with the 70 seconds of Hurt, Mark and Travis helped Tom make what he envisioned AVA would do with those 6 minute songs.
Early overall thoughts: Tom's vocals across this thing brings me back 15+ years. He still has that in him. I didn't think it was possible. All 3 members going in on the styles of each other's projects comes off so well. They've gotten close on other reunion tracks but it never felt like they were operating as a unit. There is so much soul here. It always sounds like Mark or Tom are integrating themselves into the other's solo material and passing with flying colors. These tracks are better for it.
I would flip Childhood and Dance With Me, and put Bad News and Other Side in Tier 3. Otherwise I pretty much agree.
Did a second listen (skipping the singles). God, I love how Childhood closes out with a very 90s nintendo sounding keyboard. They really went for it on this album. Like, fuck, the time signature changes in Turpentine, I would've never expected that from them
Saw this on Reddit I had to share it here : Jerry Finn would be so fucking proud. Deep thoughts for him tonight.
