Descendents came up a few times in the Zane interview as their main influence, and I'm seeing them play tonight in a small pub/punk show. This album is on repeat all day. I have a lot of emotions right now but this is a full circle coincidence right?
I’m looking at it in my phone and I have yet to hit play. I’m wondering if I should have an edible before I do so and go for a walk.
There are no misses, but my top favorites so far are: Anthem Terrified YDKWYG Blink Wave Bad News Turpentine Childhood
that would be sick but also i don't think Mark could ever be convinced to open a concert with Anthem 1 lol but maybe as a mid-set thing
"Turpentine," "Anthem Pt.3," and "Bad News" are by far the standouts on my first listen. Absolute rippers filled with riffs and hooks, and they sounds so classic & blink-y. "When We Were Young" is up there too, it has such a big chorus. I think "Edging" was a great choice of single, but works works even better in the album. Can't believe some people don't like that song. "One More Time" is definitely placed oddly in the sequence-- it would have made more sense if it switched places with "Bad News" imo. Still a great song though. "Don't Know What You've Got" is probably my least favorite on the album-- the verses are great, but the chorus feels like it just folds in on itself, it's way too dull and the guitars are super quiet. Not to do the meme, but I honestly have beef with a few other production decisions on the record-- the claps on "Fell In Love" sound kinda wet and squishy and gross me out. The cymbals on "When We Were Young" are kind of harsh on my ears at points too. Also songs like "More Than You Know," "Blink Wave," and "Other Side" would have been the highlights of any other blink project in the past decade, and I almost forgot to mention them. I think that speaks to the quality of the record more than anything to be honest. So glad to have the boys back!
Turpentine! The Other Side is great too. The chorus brings to mind Fenix Tx's chorus to Jolly Green Dumbass. Are there really no misses on this?
