Just dawned on me that for the first time in what feels like forever we’ll all get to talk about a brand new Blink-182 album with Tom tomorrow. (And if I can get over a few more hurdles I’ll actually have a review worth sharing on Friday.)
I appreciate that after Zane claims the record makes him feel like it’s gonna erupt and catapult him into space, Tom is straight up like “god I hope people feel that way otherwise it’s gonna be real awkward after all these compliments!”
Idk if it’s just because it’s new, but You Don’t Know What You Got might be in the top tier of my Blink rankings. Fuck what a song
They finally did for me. Or rather, Apple Music did... but my copy needed removed and re-added to update.
The interview was such a fun time. This is a band which has fundamentally influenced the everything about me. I always mention it, but I was 5 when EOTS came out and my older brothers convinced my Mom to buy the cd/cassette and we listened to it every single car ride for every single trip to every hockey game, mall, etc. It was the first album I knew front to back even if some lyrics went over my head while others my brother's helped clue me in (forgive our neighbor Bob/I think he humped the dog). I was hooked from there. The backgrounds each of them came from and the ethos of what this band represent have always stuck with me for better or for worse. I know this band isn't the most talented in the world and I know in the next few days there will be so much: "why the fuck does anyone care about blink-182 in 2023?" and I just don't care. This is the most important band to me and has been since I can literally remember. Tomorrow is going to such a surreal feeling hitting play.
I never disliked it, but Fell In Love has really grown on me. It's just the intro that I don't love now.
I think Tom hit the nail on the head on what drew people to their music. We were all battling angst. For the band, it was coming from divorced homes, for me it was my dad dying and my brother having cancer. We were looking for a release and their music was a solution or at least a way to get some out.
People are gonna think I stole this from him in like paragraph 6/7 of my review and I wrote that section like a month ago. Made me smile hearing it though, cause I was like ... nailed it.
So.. just under 15 hours until NZ release. Anyone know how to get Spotify to work with a VPN, or will I just have to suffer and click through the band's youtube videos of the songs for my first play through?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Release_Day Yeah, it's staggered. 12am local time for each market. So since the US is a single market, west coast gets it a 9pm because it's 12am on the east coast.
