Let's at least get some definitions down to know we're all talking about the same thing. 1. The quality of a song is not based on how the lyrics read without melody. In fact, it's literally not music at that point. 2. If you would like to judge a set of unaccompanied lyrics as standalone poetry at that point, feel free. I will agree with you that these guys aren't poets. 3. A great composition and melody with weak lyrics can make for a good (or perhaps even great) song. 4. Listeners bring their own personal background, emotions, and interpretations into the process of experiencing music. This is why musical taste is subjective and also why it's fun to talk about music... once you've heard it. I will admit that I'm a bit high
I remember seeing these lyrics before Charli XCX put out claws and I thought it was dogshit but she delivered these lines SO hard it’s insane. Don’t pre-judge written lyrics haha
"Work" rules and has some of my favorite lyrics from Jimmy Eat World. The longing for escape that he is able to capture in a few very simple lines is an example of good songwriting. There's a 30ish year old dude writing a song from the perspective of a young(er) person and not having it be cloying or cringy or forced.
The problem is, it doesn't sound like old blink-182. The problem this guy, and most of these similar artists have, is they don't know how to actually capture the sound that makes artists sound like themselves. So this just sounds like he did a generic pop-punk spin on it. The new.wav guy is the closest I've seen come to replicating blink.
I just went to his page and he does a lot of style covers, like MCS and Panic, that are actually banging: new.wav
Man, I didn't think I'd see hate on Work's lyrics here. I will agree I find the "all the best DJs" verse to be heavy on the cheese, but that song has so many excellent lyrics in it.
Is that truly the last variant besides black? Like are there any on any other websites or anything besides blink? I have not been closely tracking it but considering pulling the trigger
I’m probably going to cancel either Spotify or the red marble since I also got the Blood Records one as well. Anyone here interested before I cancel?
