I think your last sentence is the biggest factor. Dookie was the first CD I ever bought period. I used to sit at my kitchen table with headphones and the cd booklet and sing my heart out for hours. I was like 7. Yet still I didn’t keep up with them, at that age it was just on to the next thing. Even Blink, I only really liked the singles up until Untitled. But I hold blink in much higher regard and definitely feel more personally relevant than Green Day
I still cannot believe how fucking good this is. Listening to it now and it feels sooo much like listening to Blink back in the day but without pandering or relying on nostalgia. It’s amazing they pulled this off. Also..as annoyed I was when they were added to the tracklist, I do now consider the bonus tracks as part of the album, lol.
Yeah I've definitely gotten to the point where I can't imagine the album without the bonus tracks by now. Although now it annoys me that they're not on the vinyl
Every single time I throw this album on,I’m excited. It’s unbelievable how it became such a classic in such a short time! I can’t imagine blink discography without OMT at this point
Welp I have become fully obsessed with this all over again. I’ve also been re-reading this thread which is fun.
It's crazy to me that this album still has such a lasting value for me at the moment considering I felt it was more of a grower compared to Nine. I remember wanting to hear Nine constantly over and over, but OMT has surpassed Nine by far in terms of play throughs and individual songs I like. The day after it came out, I took an aimless walk through DC listening to it in full. I remember thinking Anthem 3 was ending, and then it came back with a vengeance at the end. I remember Terrified starting up and thinking I had accidentally played a different album/song, but then loving the heaviness and the BCR and Untitled vibes. OMT and MTYK hit super hard within the album as a whole and definitely brought on some emotion. I also remember having no idea which direction Turpentine was going throughout the song; constantly itching certain parts of my brain in the best way. Childhood closing it out came to feel like an odd choice, but works super well for this album and I've come to love it.
I'm excited to hear the new songs live this summer but would love for "Josie" to make its way back on to the setlist.
Sounds great but when he let's the crowd sing "no one give a..." you can clearly hear his backing vocals in the mix ha.
Shit, last night was a bunch of fan. Great setlist, was sitting up the back but they sounded good. Mix was a bit sketchy at times, but I don't think anyone cared. One of those show where it wasn't perfect but I didn't care, I had a blast. New songs didn't all land with the audience, but them dropping Always and Down back to back was awesome. Would have loved to see Josie again. Will be interesting what it's like in the front tonight sound-wise, but Rise Against now 0 for 3 when I've seen them live. Mix absolutely fucking sucks.
I was going to say it can’t be that rare because I’ve seen it 4 times, but then I realized the most recent time I did was 11 years ago wow
According to setlist.fm, the last time was 2018. Anything is possible, but now that they have a new killer album and they haven’t played it since Tom’s been back, I just don’t see it happening. I love Josie, but I don’t see them cutting anything they’re playing now to bring it back. And there are a lot more songs off of OMT that they should play over a song they’ve played a ton over the years.
There's various factors at play here, and I could go back to the origins of space/time, the big bang, atoms and evolution etc, but this article should give you some helpful insight: Album - Wikipedia
Untitled TOYPAJ = Enema One More Time The difference between tier two and OMT is somewhat insignificant, IMO. Like I’ve said, if I was still 14 or whatever, this would probably be right up there. Also, it just occurred to me that this is the first album in years that I seem to have learned all the lyrics to, lol.
Same here. It will never crack my top four, but I like it more than everything since untitled and everything pre-dude ranch, and that's perfectly cool by me
The Skiba records are right under that for me, then I guess if I had to…Neighborhoods, Cheshire, Buddha
