That I actually pay attention to the lyrics and they bring the song down for me if they're not good? Pretty self explanatory if you ask me..
I love when engineers, producers, mixers go total inside baseball and nerdy in their interviews. This interview with Aaron is really great. The worst interviews are when people say "I won't bore you with the details." I love getting all of that knowledge and tips from people like this, so it can live on forever and future engineers, producers, mixers can readily watch/hear/read all of this information. Someone like Jerry Finn and Max Martin, there's not a lot of nerdy information out there from them. There's one or two interviews I can think of with Jerry that are super in-depth, and those are great resources. But the more info the merrier!
Not too far in, but I am loving the Aaron interview. It is rad we got the Travis take and now we have Aaron's. Getting in the weeds on production rules. Thanks for sharing, would have missed this one probably.
My buzzed take on a OMT Top 5 (no particular order): Terrified More Than You Know Turpentine Anthem 3 Cut Me Off Blink Wave and Bad News are fighting for that runner up spot
Just finished the Aaron podcast. Awesome to get the perspective from Tom’s studio. Dude is so down to earth. Loved hearing his take on toms distortion to clarity preferences in the guitar parts. Seems like a very cohesive system between studios this round. Rad that they got together and wrote in the same room every couple of weeks and then disappeared in their studios to tinker and exchange.
Another new interview with Aaron. They deep dive into every track off the album. 55:30 is when the track-by-track talk starts

I ain't ranking the entire album, and I haven't listened to it in a few weeks, but the five songs that have definitely stuck with me the most are: Blink Wave Turpentine Dance With Me Fell in Love Bad News Those are easily my top 5.
"I don't think anybody in the band ever responded back to the emails and double checked the lyrics." - Aaron Rubin. There we have it! The explanation on why some of the lyrics were wrong in the lyric booklet haha.

Love that second Aaron interview where he's going track by track. I love a lot of what he says, but I know there are things in there that would make Tom fans mad lol. Specifically about keeping AvA out of blink by not making any of the songs be too reliant on synths or have the synths be the basis of the track. Also not letting Tom recycle melodies or put long intros at the beginning of the songs. I think that interview is the first time the curtain has really been pulled back about when they wrote a lot of the songs which was interesting. He specifically says January 2022 is when they first started demoing and that songs like "Turpentine", "Dance With Me" and "More Than You Know" (and a couple of scrapped songs) were some of the earliest ones started by Tom (even before "Edging" apparently). And that "When We Were Young" was the last Tom song written for the album. Only thing I'm still really even curious on is what songs, if any, were written/started after the band decided to push on through that January 2023 deadline. But overall, it sounds like the band had their groove right from the start.
