Turpentine is lyrically all over the place but that's what makes it work for me. It reminds me of what happens when I hang out with close friends that I've known my entire life where you have these sprawling convos. Convos that incorporate big life topics, internal thoughts, and stupid / goofy / immature humor. Don't know how else to explain it.

 

Surely he doesn't mean that they're going to open with it every night, right?

That totally makes sense.

 

I mean, sure, I get that. But that doesn’t make the absurd parts less absurd haha

 

Turpentine is this album's Reckless Abandon

 

It's blink personified as a song... meaningful and deep yet fun and dick jokes

... a Frankenstein if you will

 

The lyrics bouncing back and forth between serious and goofy absolutely elevate the song. That's what makes it feel so quintessential to me. It's not a joke song, but it's got so much personality. They're firing on all cylinders.

 

I already said it was like a Frankenstein song. Those lyrics still hold the song back for me. You all can praise it all you want. My favorite won’t be it. It’s fine.

 

The dark, almost sinister absurdism of Turpentine is what makes it so good for me.

 

I laughed out loud the first time I heard the ending bit where Tom pronounces it differently and goes "god dammit"

 

Greg, think of Turpentine as a sort of Frankenstein song.

Yeah, I'm really hoping they're in the $150 range. The Seattle tix were $250 before fees. Really hoping that's not the case this time around for Portland.

It's the juxtaposition of all of that stuff – the drug references, the self-immolation – that feels more darkly hedonistic than the adolescent rage of something like "Reckless Abandon."

 

We are using it as a verb. So it works out.

I laughed out loud at the finish to "Turpentine." It's so quintessentially Blink. No one else could pull that off and have me not dislike it.

 

Yeah, those Seattle prices also rose within a few minutes of going on sale. It’s an absolute scam. $150 is similar to what FOB prices are, but that tour is also not selling well at all so it might not be a good comparison. I expect this to sell super well especially since this is the first show back in Portland on a Saturday night. I just hope I can get tickets without worrying about the secondary market haha
