I have audio normalization turned off, and I have it set to playback at the highest quality. It’s still a 320 mp3 which is fine. I’m also playing through my audio interface. I’m using my Sony mdr7506 headphones. Maybe not top of the line stuff but, what I’m using is definitely good enough for me to tell if they re-recorded a song by a back to back comparison.
I think the drums sound great on this thing. Marks bass sounds so rad on some songs, especially Terrified and Dance With Me. Tom’s guitar sounds like Tom’s guitar. There’s a lot going on vocally on this thing, but hey…I just file that under “inspired by Jerry Finn” production so it’s fine haha.
The joke is, what if enema came out this year? “Why does Tom have a vocal effect on every song” “why does the snare drum have a ping on every hit” “Why does the bass sound so clean” Albums tend to be products of their time and this record is no different. It sounds unapologetically huge and modern, I love it.
for the record i said the remix sounds like it was recorded it in a big echoey chamber, not that they actually did rerecord it, mr. hifi i've been listening to the actual album download from itunes on my headphones. i did try to a/b album vs. single release on spotify and that made me feel crazy bc i'm pretty sure they've replaced the original mix on streaming entirely (?) i found a download of the og single and yeah the album version is extra-compressed for reasons that are beyond me
Between Anthem Pt 3, DWM, Terrified, MTYK, BlinkWave, and Turpentine different parts of these songs keep randomly popping in my head when not listening… sure sign this album will eventually land high in my rankings
So you’re saying they went back and replaced the original? Can you dm that original one you found, I’d love to do an A B comparison… edging is my daughters favorite song, trust me when I say I’ve heard this song a million times, it’s always sounded the same to me. I have a good ear for these sort of things usually.
proving difficult to not audibly sing the ole’s every time dwm pops on. i said this the other day but every stand alone single sounds better in the context of the record. edging is getting a surprising amount of shade since the record dropped. it’s definitely not in the top tier songs on the album but it’s modern, simple, catchy, and triumphant. just “have fun with it”
The “dick in ovaltine” line was stuck in my head all day yesterday. And now it’s stuck in my head again. Great… haha
the entire first year of covid lockdowns i almost exclusively listened to OG punk or the music that inspired it. blink doing the ramones nod and including fuck face / having a small tim armstrong impression on the album was a personal cherry on top for me.
I truly believe "Turpentine" and "Childhood" are all-time Blink songs. Regarding the former, is this the first time they've released a hybrid song that was both sincere and jokey? Usually, it's one or the other.
It’s absolutely ridiculous….this album sounds literally perfect production wise. It’s loud. It’s balanced.Tom sounds excatly like in 2000s.Mark is amazing on lyrics and ALSO sounds amazing. And Travis is just insane as always. I couldn’t ask for better sound tbh. Blink Wave is just best sounding blink overall. (post #5 about blink Wave)
I definitely like the sound of this record. There are a few albums out there where I hate the lack of dynamic range, but it doesn’t bother me on this one. Loud, crisp blink just works for whatever reason.
Made a mock/realistic set for an album tour for this. Only part I’m iffy on is Anthem 3 opening the show, but I can’t think of anywhere else to put it in the set 1. ANTHEM PART 3 2. The Rock Show 3. Family Reunion 4. FELL IN LOVE 5. Feeling This 6. Up All Night 7. Going Away to College 8. Dumpweed 9. MORE THAN YOU KNOW 10. EDGING 11. DANCE WITH ME 12. Aliens Exist 13. Happy Holidays, You Bastard 14. Stay Together For The Kids 15. Always 16. Down 17. Bored to Death 18. I Miss You 19. BLINK WAVE 20. OTHER SIDE 21. What’s My Age Again? 22. First Date 23. FUCK FACE 24. Mutt 25. All The Small Things 26. Carousel 27. Dammit 28. ONE MORE TIME
Doing some errands around the house this morning with this record on (again) and I’m thinking about how quickly it’s felt like it just fits right into their catalog and is a staple of the band now. (I know I’ve had it longer than most.) But, it’s like yeah, doing a Blink album run and for sure this is included in it.
